When I was a kid, we used a slip knot for our finger and just a knot for the top. We didn't have fancy buttons or rings. I had a top that was a whistler. It had holes drilled in the top so when it spinned, it whistled. Great toys.

I am a hardcore top thrower and my recommendation is wood tops there the most durable but they are heavier so thats a weak point if you like stunts but if you want more enduring wood top is your go

I haven’t used one since I was 14. 4 yrs passed came back to Mexico and went to a flea market and instantly bought one for $35 Pesos. Obviously I sucked at it cuz I haven’t used one in 4yrs. In 3 hours I instantly got the hang of it and know I know like 2-3 tricks. I really like them, they can take a beating

I played with wooden tops as a kid 4th grade we would make points longer to break other tops was the best feeling to break a piece off ur friends tops...red, green blue, yellow were the only colors...memories!!!

In Phillipines we call it "TRUMPO" ours is made out of wood and a nail that is pushed all the way to the middle.

We used to play crack the top when I was a kid. Great fun, of course the tops were wooden. We'd throw them hard at each others tops trying to split them.

In the Philippines we fight with trumpos but not like beyblade the win condition is to destroy your opponents trumpo but out trumpo is wood and in the Philippines we dont have the thing that helps tie the string

I am over 86 and I remember our tops were wooden .some with spikes and some with a ball bearing tip the spikes were good for splitting the other kids tops
