Sunday dinner at Mothers Joe's (Irma P. Hall) is a mouth watering, 40 year tradition. As seen through the eyes of her grandson Ahmad (Brandon Hammond), love and laughs are always on the menu, despite the usual rivalries simmering between his mom Maxine (Vivica A. Fox) and her sisters Teri (Vanessa Williams) and Bird (Nia Long). But when serious bickering starts to tear the family apart, the good times suddenly stop. Now it's up to Ahmad to get everyone back together and teach them the true meaning of soul food.

One of my favorite movies of all time!! Soul food is such a unique movie because it focuses on every emotion you could feel. Happiness, sadness, shockers, anger, worry, positivity/negativity, excitement ect. It's so sad at times but ends very well. With the family back together.

In my opinion I don't think Lem's ex and Bird's ex Simuel's brief appearance at the wedding was no coincidence. I think Simuel set that up to distract Lem so he wouldn't notice another man feeling up on his wife. Otherwise knowing how crazy Lem was Simuel would've been dead.
