Gotta be real, started playing because I was curious what a MC clone would be like.

After installing a few mods and getting used to the feel of the movement and other features, I quite like the game...

Minetest is pretty much the Linux of 3D sandbox games.

I think trees tend to be closer together in Minetest than Minecraft. It makes it harder to decay leaves, but otherwise is harmless.

You can't run in default, but there is a fast setting. It's for creative mode really though. There are also several mods which add sprinting.

It's pretty cool how while Minetest is majorly supposed to be just a base for mods, it's actually a really functional game on its own, kinda like Minecraft without useless garbage

i think anyone would look at this and think it's a cheap minecraft clone. but i think that's far from the truth.

the modding capabilities, especially given with how easy they are and because of the game's FOSS nature, it opens up a lot more possibilities imo. this isn't just a game, this is a game engine. i like the way mods work and feel. rather than the third party feel they have with minecraft, they feel very native to the game and woven into the fabric (no pun intended). they feel less like mods and more like downloadable "feature packs" (i hesitate to call them DLC) that you can add for a more complete game experience.

Only downside - really difficult to make new dimensions (needs massive rework of entire engine). And limited world size (it should be tripled horizontally).

In singleplayer you can run `/grantme all` in the chat (or by pressing /) to grant yourself Fly, Fast, and Noclip privileges. You can toggle them with J, K and H respectively.
You can run "/help all" for a list of available commands
