That socket also came with some P3 machines too. My old IBM 600Mhz have this.

Had the Celeron 300A in this format, minus the plastic shroud. When overclocked it was actually faster than the PII at the same clockspeed, due to its integrated L2 cache.
Man, i feel old 😂

I really miss lightweight CPUs that don't require a large heatsink.

I had dual P2 450mhz like this for a good couple years back in the day, ran like a beast.

For me, that's the best way to install a CPU. Imagine a board with multi-slots for CPUs. Like sli and pci. I owned that cpu. It was perfect . Using that CPU, I played: war craft 1& 2, Need for speed, and many other games. Wonderful days.

So so many memories installing these for my dad as an 8 year old

Just need some Weird Al singing about Pentiums in the background to set the mood.

That’s dope, understandable that it would never work on modern cpus but that seems so convenient

Yes I built one of these PCs with that CPU. It didn't last long in that format

Those cartridge CPUs look pretty cool back in the day unless you had a naked one without the heat sink

You know it's goated when you need to do a tactical reload

This was the generation when AMD Athlon came out and beat and Intell for the first time. Which was also a slot A processor. I always enjoyed the idea of a slotted processor it's just a little different

We gotta bring that back, it looks so easy to use

Did those produce enough heat to need a cooler? How did you cool it?
