Octopus are incredibly smart and oddly emotional creatures. They don't make great pets for a lot of people because when most people hear "smart animal" they think of a dog or cat or parakeet, something with the rough intelligence of a 2-5 year old human child, but octopus act more like pre-teens or early teenagers. Very calculating, and their emotions are difficult to parse and identify the source of, mood swings will give you whiplash, and they believe they're smarter than you constantly - and occasionally do something so devious you question if they might be right.
