This is absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. A mother octopus will lay her eggs, which could be in the thousands. She will hover, constantly filtering water over them, curling herself around them to protect them 24/7. She doesn't eat, but spends what energy she has left in her, then when the babies hatch, she will pass away. As intelligent as they are, I wish they would live longer than a few years.

octopuses can teach us a lot! i’ve met an octopus at the beach and helped her back into the water and she seemed to realize i was helping her. they are very intelligent
