Why I Hate PC Culture (+ The War on Comedy)

Political correctness as we know it has been around for decades, but with cancel culture and social media politics it seems like PC culture just keeps getting worse. In this video I discuss some major issues with political correctness and censorship, talk about the PC war on comedy (especially stand up comedy), why comedy and dark humor is so necessary, the first amendment and free speech rights, hate speech, the Berkeley concept of "speech as violence", the euphemism treadmill as it relates to the word retarded (the "r" word), the evolution of language, and the shameful walking on eggshells feeling that people get from censorship and twitter mobs. I also use podcast clips from Glenn Greenwald, Sam Harris, and Ricky Gervais to help illustrate my points. Lots of references down below.

Came here upon the recommendation of Metatron. Agree with a lot of what you're said, and it's quite nice to see someone else in my age group with similar thoughts.

I've got quite a few issues with PC culture, but my top three are their inability to be offended, their inability to challenge (or be challenged), and how they get violent towards individuals over how "Immoral" they are for doing/saying said things they don't like.

You make good arguments. I feel like if everyone actually debated like you with examples and nuances that we'd actually make a lot of progress as a society. People nowadays just aren't willing to discuss a topic, much less take the time to honestly listen to someone else. When people feel opposed they just get offended and resort to name calling and labeling other people as a last ditch effort to make themselves appear morally superior. Then the other party gets enraged and it just starts a vicious cycle. Good job, please keep the videos coming! If you are saying "People should not be held responsible for what they said 10 years ago if the PC culture from 10 years ago differs from today, " then I would agree. PC changes too much simply because some people like to offend and some people are too sensitive. just my 2 cents.

I'm SOOO happy you explained the history, and valid meaning of the word retarded. The whole word replacement thing has annoyed me since childhood, and I've thought this way since childhood. The word itself does not matter, only intent matters.

There was a time thinking the 70's when the medical profession dealing with down syndrome tried reclassify use different words because people were using the other words like retarded etc as insults so they tried " special " but guess what people started using "special": as an insult " what are you special"
