Lol, I love how Taker kept saying "Mick, let's go home, let's go home. Let's end this before we die", and Mick's like, "Nah, get the tacks."

You really chose the single most brutal match in WWE history to watch as your introduction to it. 😂😂😂

I find it so hilarious that your son didn’t utter a word watching this... his eyes lit up and he just turned into a fan right before us, such a priceless moment.

Seeing the boy turning into a fan, right before our eyes, in real time, is priceless

While pro wrestling is predetermined, famous wrestler Diamond Dallas Page has a quote for when someone asked if wrestling was real: "you can't fake gravity". This match embodied all of the real life pain that wrestlers are willing to endure for the sake of storytelling.

As a WWE fan since I was 8 years old, WWE is one of those things where you kinda just have to watch it to really understand it. It’s scripted, so the superstars know the outcome of the matches, but the moves and stunts are real, and these guys are incredible professionals that put their lives on the line every time they step in the ring. It has a drama to it with in ring storytelling whether it’s through wresting or on the microphone. And if you buy into it, it’s one of the most rewarding communities to be apart of. WWE is a billion dollar corporation and continues to grow every year. It’s so much fun with so much history and I’m so happy you guys are checking out a glimpse of that storied history.

R.I.P. to the late great Terry Funk, who passed away last month (August 2023) at the age of 79. Funk was good friends with Foley and played an invaluable part in the concept of this match and also was one of the people checking on Mick - he even took a chokeslam from Taker while Foley was being checked on just to buy him some time.

Funk was a true wrestling legend spanning multiple decades in multiple territories and promotions. A Texas icon, as old-school and as hardcore as they come, a member of countless wrestling Halls of Fame including WWE's and the Wrestling Observer, as legendary in Japan as he was in the USA. He is already sorely missed.

This match was literally 25 years ago, and every single person who watched this live or on the television remembers exactly all that happened in that match. It was the most amazing thing anyone had ever witnessed.

My nephew basically idolizes Mick Foley and even went to school with his daughter. (Mick actually recorded a video as a surprise congratulating my nephew on his wedding a couple years ago). That man puts so much heart into everything that he does and he is the real deal. He's put himself in some extremely dangerous and physically damaging situations just so that he can put on a good show for his fans.

I watched this live. I was 18 in 1998 and was supposed to be working my shift as a waiter but switched with someone so I could watch this. All my buddies chipped in to buy the PPV and we had no idea we were going to get this insane match. Just watching this brings goose bumps back for me. Mick Foley is once of the nicest guys in the history of WWE and totally went above and beyond for us fans. Undertaker and Mick are legends!

legend has it, taker is still trying to convince mankind to stop the match...

I can definitely tell you as a Indy wrestler that pro wrestling or sports entertainment is not fake it is scripted and when you start the match you know who's winning and losing it is up to the wrestlers to tell a compelling story together that can move the crowd

I was lucky enough to watch this live on TV. The Attitude Era was something special, and it'll never be replicated. 1998 doesn't feel that long ago...

Mick Foley, the guy who got the crap kicked out of him, is legendary for taking massive "bumps" like this over his career. He really loves wrestling, and gave everything he had to it. What's crazy is that this blood soaked brawler is actually the nicest man in the wrestling business. When other wrestlers would leave the shows and go out to party all night, Mick would be reading in his hotel room or going to amusement parks lol. He's mostly retired from any wrestling now, but he's also a published author with multiple best sellers written and he does a ton of charity work as a Santa Claus as well. Mick loves Christmas so much he named his daughter Noelle lol.

I'm tearing up watching this, and their reaction to it. The physicality and hell that Mick Foley put his body through for the sport, the entertainment, and the art of pro wrestling cannot be understated.

I was about 18 or 19 when this match happened. It's basically the STRONGEST reason why, to date "Mankind" (aka Mick Foley) is my absolute FAVORITE wrestler of all time!

The man was TRULY A BEAST, , and cared more about his performance for his fans than almost anyone else in the industry!! Thanks for bringing back those memories, and making me feel that level of nostalgia that I rarely feel anymore these days!!

Great review/breakdown by the way! 👍

The Undertaker and Mick Foley are two of the most amazing people and great friends. The way they worked together was truly a horrifying joy to watch. Hell of a match.

I remember watching this live on TV when I was 10 years old. I'll NEVER forget this match for as long as I live. And, we'll NEVER see another match like it EVER again.

Recently these 2 got together and filmed them watching this. For the anniversary of this match. Was pretty cool to see. The Undertaker is my fave wrestler. He retired last year, gave 30 yrs to the WWE. And this definitely was one of his greatest matches in my opinion.

The outcome of the match is predetermined, but what happens during the match is decided by the wrestlers involved. They will usually agree to a rough outline of what they want to do backstage before walking out to the ring, but they still make it up as they go, feeling things out as they perform and see how the crowd is reacting. It truly is an art form and they train specifically to keep everyone as safe as possible, but the performers are really taking a physical beating every time they go out there. Most matches are nothing like this and are much more safe.
