It's popular because a lot of people connect with it (including me), whether it's lyrics, the simplicity of the song, the vocals, a memory it's connected with, etc. But that goes for any popular song. I guess it's just not for you. There is never something created that everyone likes, there will always be people who either don't get it or just don't like it, and thats ok.
