“I ruined him….” Oh that makes me smile so much. I wish more people would get that level of payback at a minimum for judges making poor decisions.

"And I feel happy that I ruined his career." What an absolute lion of a father

The judge who ordered him to only 5 years should have NEVER heard another case. He's almost as guilty as the murderer! Disgusting, disgraceful, repulsive! God rest her soul!

I remember this. Kudos to the father for making an example of this poor excuse of a judge. This poor girl.

The judge didn't give any justice for her but her father sure tried. He still fought for her. Thanks for bringing this story to light again. I had forgotten about it.
Love your channel!

This is so heartbreaking. Dominic Dunne loved his daughter Dominque so much and he held so much pain in his heart. Gut wrenching. So sad a story.

I LOVE Her Dad and the way he went out of his way to destroy that Judge. That's a GOOD FATHER. Love You Dominique and I'm so very sorry your brilliant light was extinguished on this earth so soon.

Her dad is what every dad should be. He’s a gem.

When her father said "I ruined him" I shouted out "Good for you."

I had a friend who was murdered, and her family never got over it. So, I understand Dominique's family and their grief.

Domestic abusers are lower than pig dung. Thank you for memorializing her here. She needs to be remembered. Superb work, as always.

John Sweeney a.k.a. John Patrick Maura is now working as general manager of Smith Ranch Homes which is an luxury assisted living community. They must not dig into background checks very much.

Just a side note, as a DV survivor, getting out of a DV relationship is not always the issue. The bigger issue is staying out and away from the abuser!

Good on her dad for going after the judge. California still had the death penalty back then and this judge was handing out the most pathetic sentences.

As a DV survivor, thank you for raising awareness in a respectful manner! It’s heartbreaking knowing other people experience this and some are not as lucky as I have been in escaping it.

I always loved her father. Had his books and after her death, he began the serious writing on crimes and had a fantastic column in Vanity Fair that I never missed. Such a sad story. Having been in a domestic violence situation, I know the terror she had to have felt.

We had 911 in 1982. What we didn’t have was an understanding of “domestic violence.” Such situations were considered “a private matter, ” or dismissed as a “lovers’ tiff.” Violence against women was considered natural, normal, and there was a lot of victim blaming. “ She must have asked for it!”

This was a sad thing, but it's infuriating the lenient sentence Dominique's killer received. It's good her father worked to get that judge out of the law practice. So many judges don't deserve their robes; they pity the victimizer over the victim. This seems especially true nowadays. You often hear that the career criminal is also a "victim of society". It's leniency such as this that is chipping away at our society.

Her murderer is back in L.A. working again as a chef and i believe he changed his name if im not mistaken. I was only 10 when she was murdered but a few years later when i watched Poltergeist and found out what happened to her it has always stuck with me just how awful and tragic her death was. Thanks Michael for another great video!
