Have a Chromebook and want to check the battery health and discharge rate? Use CROSH! CROSH=CHROme SHell. Use Ctrl+Alt+T to open CROSH on your Chromebook’s browser. Follow these simple instructions and you can calculate how long your battery will last! Handy if you like to turn your screen brighter than the default. It’s simple to figure out- if you do a battery sampling for 60 seconds, and it uses 0.5% in that time, then in one hour it will use 30%… etc! (Remember that turning up your brightness drains your battery faster than the default setting. Also these numbers are rounded and simple to give an EXAMPLE!) You can also find out your overall battery health. CROSH is similar to a terminal you would find in a Linux distro.

This test identify an idle workload battery drain, idle means that there is very little or no usage of apps while test is running. So if we are watching a video on youtube, the workload will be a video viewing workload. If the usage of your organization is watching video, your practical battery life will be a "Video viewing battery life." Or if you are doing document and browsing the web to research, this could be a "Productivity battery life" test. So in other words, what is the purpose of Chromebook usage - school, office, etc.

Thanks, my dude. I see a lot of forums regarding Chromebooks that won't turn on, but a lot of techs ask them to run this diagnostic... on a Chromebook that doesn't turn on. If you use the keyboard shortcut while the device is off, will it boot to CROSH? I do not have a device handy to test this out, but my users are losing their goddamn minds because their Chromebooks keep pooping out. Be well!
