COLORADO: SOLO ride from GATEWAY to OURAY and my first MOTORCYCLE SERVICE

A motorcycle ride through Colorado, from Gateway over Naturita, Norwood, Ridgeway, Montrose to Ouray - including a desperate search for a motorcycle workshop!

Due to the accident on the White Rim trail the ways of my little travel group split up much earlier than expected - and I was back on the road solo to continue my journey across the USA all the way to Miami.

The ride from Gateway to the town Naturita on Highway 141took me through the Dolores river canyon for most of the way, and followed the Dolores and San Miguel rivers with its smooth sandstone walls and roaring waters. I was traveling on the so called Unaweek Tabuach Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic Byway.

The scenery for the first time since leaving from Los Angeles changed completely. Instead of burning heat the sky was covered with clouds, temperature dropped to 20 degrees celsius, and in the distance I saw the snow capped Rocky Mountains appear - my destination for this day! But first I had to master another challenge: I had to find a motorcycle workshop.

Watch the episode to find out why my Tenere needed an inspection so urgently - and to join the ride through Colorado from Ridgeway to the famous town Ouray - a hub for some of Colorados best roads!

// A roadtrip that dreams are made of: join my journey through the United States of America. From Los Angeles in California on the westcoast to Miami in Florida on the eastcoast.
9,000 kilometers,
13 states,
28 days,
1 motorcycle

I'm from Colorado. Hope you got over to Lake City. It's just over the mountain from Ouray.

Welcome to Colorado. Ouray is a great town. Ouray has nice hot springs that will warm you up when it’s raining.

Ouray… One of my favorite places to visit in the United States.
The Million Dollar Hwy is incredibly scenic. I’ll check out that video next.

My favorite (paved) pass in Colorado is Independence Pass. But it’s only open after Labor Day. There are places that are so narrow two cars can’t pass each other on it.I think it’s over 12, 000 ft high. It’s on the way to or from Aspen. Now that’s an interesting place to visit. My favorite unpaved pass is Kebler in Gunnison County in the Fall. The Aspen trees are absolutely beautiful then. Spend some time in Crested Butte when you go there. 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸

Wunderbare Landschaft. Das sind wir hier in Europa nicht gewohnt. Alleine fahren ist gar nicht so schlimm, denn man muss sich auf niemanden einstellen. Danke Lea, dass du deine Erinnerungen teilst.

Beautiful area. I rode through there in 2014, on my first long motorcycle trip, riding a 2009 Goldwing (no dirt roads on that bike 🙂)

That town is the perfect place to stop at when it’s raining. I would have stopped at the local coffee shop, and watched the rain, or read a book. 😉👏👏👏👏

As other have probably said Ouray is a beautiful town. Years ago we stayed there, rented a jeep and hit the trails all over. They are stunning. And the ghost towns in the mountains. You said in one video you took Engineer's pass on your motorcycle. Brave. We did it in the jeep. I just came upon your videos. Later you have the one in Arkansas. I grew up there and have traveled a lot in Northern Arkansas, but you found some spots I missed and will be venturing there. Enjoy your trip across the USA

Thanks for your reply. I did not realise you only tour for a limited few months and you had home/family/work commitments. I am luckily retired so time for cruising is endless. Drive safely and keep the rubber on the road/track. JB

I’m loving your videos! Colorado was my home for many years, I now live in southern Missouri. The mechanic that serviced your bike, was a friend of mine Jeremy. That is a very good shop. Enjoy your ride!
