i tried renovating the worst house in windenburg

Fun fact about the overhang type tudor houses - bakers and fishmongers etc in the UK were charged rent for the square footage of the ground floor of the building, so to make rent cheaper the ground floor is always smaller and the upstairs had overhangs so that living quarters were larger and this didn't affect the rent!

I feel like taller wall height on the bottom floor and shorter wall height on the upper level is very common in this kind of architecture (speaking from observations in Germany). At least visually it appears that way, even if the rooms might be the same height. The only way to achieve this in the sims is the way it was done in the original build. I too always do different wall heights when I am building in that kind of style.
Removing that and the overall jettied parts of the top floor would just rob the build of the historic inspiration, I feel like.
Since Simsie asked why the door is so small: This style of architecture comes with very narrow doors! So that's why there's no big door.

I've never seen anyone mentioning it but the rooms in this house are literally the pre-made ones from the base game which makes it even worse because they just made them bigger and emptier, and overall it's really a mess
love the renovation, definitely will be using it from now on!

When I was renovating this house, the first thing I did was moving the house to the smaller empty lot in the same neighbourhood and reserved the big lot for Tudor style farm/homestead. It fit perfectly and it made more sense. But I spent DAYS trying to fix that house because nothing make sense here. And in the end, I had to delete almost all furniture because it screamed tasteless modernisation. There is so much nice furniture in the base game that fit the Tudor vibe much better that what they used in there. That kitchen is an eyesore.

The house I grew up in was built in 1752 and has been renovated over time. Every room literally does have a different flooring, I cannot think of 2 rooms with the same floor. Then some rooms were clearly renovated when my parents moved in in the 90s and some have been re-done in the 2010s and 2020s, which DO NOT match the vibes of the old house. So although it's not what I'd do in the sims, it is how real homes are and it's my home.

I really loved this house and windenburg! Its just a necessary pack to me, also i liked the reno but i would've put a normal roof on the plantform part, i think it looks kinda weird all the roofs with random plantform lol

I live in France and I have to say, the horrible cherry red lacquered kitchen was a huge trend and way too common. I've also seem lime green and like a grape purple? So points for European accuracy I guess.

The houses being so weird makes sense within the context of a game developer with no sense of architecture or interior design throwing it together in 45 minutes because that’s all the time their corporate overlords have given them

Shrinking the build helps with wall pattern so, so much. The original was really giving (slaps on new wallpaper and calls it a day) and didn't give the illusion of panels, at all.

I like that the top is wider - it is how many tudor houses were. The interior is an issue - there is so much empty space. Plus it really needs more chimneys and fireplaces. My biggest issue with the build, though, is that they put the front door at the back of the house. The number of times I have visited this house in a blizzard is crazy and my sim has almost frozen to death trying to knock on the door.

I think we need the rebuild of this lot now. And I vote for Kim-Lewis house, because it looks terrible.

The house I live in has that kind of overhang (even though it's not a Tudor-styled house). In England, houses from the Tudor period still have that sort of overhang. (As someone else mentioned, it was because they were charged for the ground floor square footage, but not for the upper floors. So, they made the upper levels large so they were not charged as much.)

I used to play in that house (until 2022 when I got a laptop to play on.) My laptop is currently in the shop (as the hard drive died) so I'm using my desktop. I decided to look at that save. I had to laugh because I not only hadn't made it smaller, but I added onto it and put in 2 basements. I did rearrange things inside (leaving the outside mostly intact.) The whole place was full of skill-building items (with the lowest basement "just for family" with magic skill things.)
