How to Fix Soap Seizing 🤨 Cold Process Soap Making

Hey Sud Squad! Have you ever gone to make your soap and gotten soap on a stick? If you've been making soap for any length of time, chances are you've experienced this a time or two. Soap seizing occurs when the chemical components in an additive or fragrance cause your soap to trace too quickly. The good news is that there are some ways to get your fragrances or additives to behave so that you can still use them without seizing. In this video I demonstrate soap seizing and then show you how to counteract the effects.

I hope you find this helpful on your soap making journey!

Yes. After countless hours of reading and watching I've learned to do this step if I'm unsure if fragrance accelrates too fast ! With trial and error (t&e) I've learned the hard way believe me! Let me tell ya though ive never ever wasted a batch even if it seized, I just added lots of water and turned it into laundry detergent or rebatched cause dang it soap ingredients cost too much money to throw an unfortunate batch away😊❤ i absolutely am still blown away with your story and im so proud of you!! Thanks!

Hi Soap Gal, love this tutorial here thank you. Only one thing though, and sorry if this is a silly question. You said R & D around six times in this video without elaborating. What does this mean, what does that stand for? You got people all over the world watching from different languages and cultures - why the abbreviation, is the phrase too long to say it? Would appreciate the explanation, then this will be jargon-free lesson in soapmaking. Many many blessings. x

1 hour later!
Okay got it - research and development, spelt out clearly on another of your videos. Cool!

To clarify: just use a whisk instead of an immersion blender once you add the fragrance?

Hello and nice video.
Just a question please. I tried to make a soap following all of your instructions and also watching a lot of your videos. I did the recipe in a soap calculator got the numbers in grams and prepared my lye warm my oils and butters everything went well I did had trace and everything and then in trace I added Glycerin and then the soap started to become crumply and hard like a thick mud kind of but still with the spatula I could put it in the molds. As I was molding the soap about 5 minutes the soap I had on my big bowl from muddy crumply mud like substance started to thinned by it self again. Not much but thinned a bit. I thought that's weird ! Anyway I put all the soap in molds and next day the soap was hard. After 3 days I tested the PH just to see the results and learn in the process what is the reading in 3 days time and it was 9. I cut a small piece like almond size and try to lather and the soap didn't lather at all !!
Tried again in 5 days again nothing no lather no bubbles. What might be the reason of no lather ? Is it too early in 3 to 5 days that I'm trying to lather ? Should I try in 4-6 weeks again ?
Thank you

What should be the temperature of oils and lye solution when mixing? Should both be at room temperature?

Thanks so much for the video. You went super fast. Question…. You added water to the oils the lye water (50/50) to the oils? Or did you add all of the water to the oils then dry lye?

What if I want to use less than 3lbs of the oil blend? How will that work for a beginner?

I also have this problem sometimes I keep the temperature at 90 degrees F but sometimes I have this problem and it seems like the essential oil thickens immediately after adding it I can't figure out the exact reason yet

My soap did a volcano eruption after I put it in the mold
I’ve made this shampoo bar recipe several times and it’s never done this
Is this shampoo bar still safe to use or is it toast
