Born on the north shore but raised in California and Utah. Fortunate to go back and visit family in Laie throughout my life and enjoyed every moment despite all the negative feelings. The aina will always be home, a place of peace and comfort for me. Never forget your roots!

The kids on the beach were awesome. My family and I hang out there sometimes for “Aloha Friday” and the vibes are so great! I especially love how all the adults were making sure all the kids were safe. Love it!

What Sucks about living in Hawaii? Here are a few:

1.Tourism Overload: There are too many tourists,
2.Dependence on Tourism: Too many people rely on tourism, which is unstable. Finding ways to diversify is better for all.
3.Ineffective Policies: Some policies, particularly those from the Democratic side, seem to benefit only politicians and their donors rather than the general populace.
4.Hawaiian Electric's Policies: Hawaiian Electric’s current practices are problematic. For instance, I have a solar system and battery backup, yet I’m still required to pay $150 a month for a service I don’t use. It doesn’t make sense to mandate this kind of connection and fee structure.
5.Military Presence: The large military presence is causing environmental issues, including contamination of our drinking water and ocean bays. A potential solution could be to reduce or transition military activities on the islands.
In summary, Hawaii once thrived under effective management and sustainable practices. Today, the island faces challenges due to overpopulation and a lack of resources. With limited land and ocean resources, we rely too heavily on external sources for food and essentials.
Additionally, there are concerns about Hawaiian Electric’s financial dealings. It’s noteworthy that Timothy E. Johns, the board chair of Hawaiian Electric, is also the President of an Zypher insurance company. The very same company involved in the Maui fire compensation. This raises questions about the fairness of the $4 billion compensation process and the impact on local Stakeholders. (The victims of the Hawaiian Electric Fire!) Follow the money, Timothy E. Johns the CEO, and board chair of Hawaiian Electric is going to pay 4 Billion dollars to Zypher Insurance that Timothy E. Johns, just-so-happens to be the President!. The Governor is on-board with it all! Yet nobody has a problem with that!
These are some of the key frustrations and challenges faced by residents in Hawaii. In short This is WHAT SUCKS ABOUT LIVING IN HAWAII!

Hawaii is a great place to live but like everywhere else has its problems. Cost of living, poor educational system and inability to get anything built or done in a timely manner, and local government biggest joke of all.

Housing. There isn't much and its expensive. Homelessness is everywhere

Moving... Already purchased... but... One of the things we find amusing every time we visited before moving is the heat/humidity. Every time people apologized for the heat and humidity. We have to explain we're visiting from a place that has 95 degree temps, 80%+ humidity so your 88 degrees and 66% humidity is cool and dry. Not to mention our afternoon hurricanes nearly every day in the wet season. We're ok with the rain level of just about everywhere except super wet places where we are not moving to.

I'm sure we'll get used to it, but not all that much. Plus we have family on the islands... so we're making efforts to have our new home work for us.

I’ve missed your videos, glad to have a new one. I think it is important to talk about the downside of anyplace. We are looking to move - someplace - and prices anywhere people want to move are insane. NH, NC, TN, FL, TX, houses in popular areas are 1-1.5MM and up. And it is hard to get a sense of a place without spending a lot of time there.

Aloha from southwest Florida! Born and raised on Oahu - Roosevelt grad Class of ‘65; mother was Class of ‘43. Moved here 33 years ago, mainly due to the high cost of housing and living. Now, it’s crazy over here, but still much less than Oahu. Thankfully, it wasn’t bad when we first arrived, so we were able to buy a home, which has increased in value by over 400%. Roaches and lizards, no surprise. A/C is an absolute must!!

We just moved to Kailua from Socal, and I love it. But 2 million plus for super old and non-updated homes/neighborhoods is not it.

Born and raised in oahu. 60 percent Hawaiian. Left Kailua oahu because of the cost of living. You forgot to tell them how the state keeps tacking on taxes to the people. And the car registration is around 600.00 a yr and then your safety check is 100.00 a yr to drive your car on the roads. The roads are horrible and there construction to fix the freeway takes forever to be completed. If you buy a suv car there's hard to park your car. The property taxes are out of this world for a chicken coupe . Homeless is also a major problem. Traffic is horrible. I moved to Ohio and will never buy a home in Hawaii. I came back in July and seen how much in changed. A raw fish and poi and local food I think food land is the best place. $35 for good local food. Youngs fish market is also a good place to eat Hawaiian food.

Without tourist or military, Hawaii would not have an income.

I live in the Uk and have been coming to Hawaii every year since 2003 and stay for a month.Next trip is in March 2025. I will say this, Hawaii is not a place it's the people.

Living in Oregon is like living in the UK. 9 months of Lousy weather and one month of hell heat and the other two no comment. If you only know what's going on here on the mainland, you would never visit here again. I promise. Comment back, and we can discuss why I'm moving there and leaving here for good. I'm getting my little slice of paradise before It's too late. Aloha and I hope you never have to suffer again coming to the mainland and my advice! Stay where you're at. This place is a hell hole.

I was wondering when you were gonna mention the critters 😂 I might wanna add the dirty pigeons that lurk at the outdoor restaurants to the list. Def challenging to work with the time zones while operating on "island time" over here - very similar to Guam lol. Otherwise every home has it's things... I think I'll love living here 😎

really appreciate the honesty in this vid🤙🏾
