I surprised Whisper would even be near Shadow let alone small talk to him, considering her friends got killed by androids who resemble Shadow, not sure if it’s a part of personality to make anyone laugh through.

I headcanon that Shadow doesn’t want to be in a deep relationship with anybody because he’s immortal and everyone is gonna eventually die, which will make the grieving worse for him so he keeps himself distant from everyone to avoid the impact, Rouge is about as cutthroat and pragmatic enough for Shadow to rely on to carry through with serious decisions in completing objectives as well her connections to the criminal underworld and black market which Shadow needs to access illegal weapons and tech to help complete missions.
