There's only one version of this SUV that I'd buy! 2023 Hyundai Tucson review (N Line diesel Elite)

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson offers SUV shoppers a heap of choice. But there's only one version I'd choose.

And it's the one I just happened to be reviewing for this test - the 2023 Hyundai Tucson Elite diesel AWD with N Line Pack. Yep, it's a mouthful, but this is the sweet spot in the Tucson range, I reckon.

That's because it gets the best and most efficient powertrain available in the Tucson line-up, while also getting the sport Hyundai N package that makes it look a bit more special, and adds the otherwise-only-in-the-Highlander LED lighting.

It's strictly a five-seater, despite having a big boot, and this is a very impressive SUV in this spec. The base petrol engine isn't great, and the mid-spec turbo petrol is hard to live with.

Tell me if you like this grade of Tucson, or if there's another spec you'd pick - or if you'd choose a different SUV or crossover altogether!

I bought the Elite diesel with the nline package 6 months ago and still enjoy driving it every day. The performance and the economy is 2nd to none and downsizing from a 4 wheel drive due to health issues find the amount of room favourable. If your after a SUV with plenty of room, plenty of power and with awesome economy you wont be disappointed.

We bought our Hyundai Elite N Line diesel a few days ago. Very impressed with its performance. We have been getting anywhere from 5.7 lites per 100 klms -6.1 litres per 100 klms. Absolutely the most economical vehicle we have ever owned. And living out at Bathurst our roads are typical country roads (if you know what I mean). But this car is so smooth over all the bumps, lumps and potholes. Its just so roomy and probably the first car I can stretch my legs right out in. The front heated seatings is fantastic as I have a bad back, it relives any ache. Another feature which I personally like (which you didn't mention in this video) is the Blue link app. Which you get on your phone. Allowing you from the comfort of indoors to open doors, windows, turn on car, aircon, heated seats. How bloody good is that. Overall couldn't be any happier with this car. Just plain AWESOMENESS!!

I was an early adopter of this gen Tucson. The N-Line and different motors were not available. I took the base model as I detest touch climate controls. Drove it from Sydney to Brisbane 3 months ago and the 2 litre sat on 110 km\h with radar cruise plus 5 people and luggage. Fuel economy was 7.5 litre/100km.

I went with the 1.6L n-line after driving the Diesel and 1.6L. Few reasons were - ULP being so much cheaper where I am 20-30c on diesel. The service are cheaper, in future Diesel will be more expensive for maintenace and I only hold the car for 5 years for the warranty then recycle. Solid review.

I went with the 1.6t highlander. I'm not sure if they may have sorted the transmission, but I can't say I felt the lurchyness. I found the diesel a bit too noisy at higher revs, and if you're not doing long stretches of driving, one could guarantee DPF problems. The 2lt is an absolute slug.
It was a bit more, but worth the price for the highlander. The cooling seats during the summer are just MAGIC! And as a photographer, the automatic tailgate is superb. Not to mention the full view of the parking camera.
A quick note to anyone with kids. DO NOT get the N Line upgrade. The seat material is a filth magnet.

We've just put a deposit on the Highlander Diesel. Drive train zips around the wet Victorian roads with ease, and the extras like 360 cam and heated/vented seats are a nice touch.

Tucson Diesel N-line AWD in South Africa. Great car, great torque so very punchy especially with AWD traction off the line. Would like perhaps a slightly softer suspension for dirt roads to the country side, but overall good enough. Fuel consumption excellent around 7l/100km in daily driving, even less on the long highways. Build quality top notch and leading after market service. You cannot go wrong.

I hesitated to buy Tucson Elite N but you sold me on that. Thanks. I'm sure I won't have regret and that means something from a current RAV4 Hybrid AWD owner :)

My Old Duck just bought a Tuscon Highlander with the diesel motor, man it is a nice car, the levels of tech and comfort are so high, effortless car to drive

Probably a good compromise . Save the difference over the Highlander & if you don't want the sunroof, the Elite N Line diesel pretty well is the one

Love the new channel and vids so far Matt! Any news on if and when a hybrid version might be available in Australia? I think I saw Canada has one and would love to see a review of that comparied to the Rav4 hybrid.

Good review Matt. Very good car but an example of car manufacturers gouging people and dumping junk in Australia. Why bother with the crap 2.0 litre or the 1.6T? Either bring the 2.5 litre they sell in the US, or use the 1.6T but put the 8 speed torque converter gearbox in it. That, plus the diesel option for those who see the need. Personally, I will never bring myself to buy any car with a DSG (thanks VW), nor a diesel if you are only going to use it around town at low speeds (clogged DPF anyone?). They are selling these things like hotcakes, but only because Toyota can't work out how to make enough RAV4 Hybrids. I reckon the new Xtrail is a better bet mechanically and interior.

Hey mate great reviews! Weighing up between the Tucson Highlander diesel and RAV4 hybrid cruiser for my partner. Both been quoted the exact same price, Tucson delivery next week, Rav in 3 months but happy to wait. What would your choice be? Appreciate your feedback

Love your reviews, clear and to the point.

Which would be your pick?
- 2023-24 Hyundai Tucson Highlander N-Line 2L Petrol for $48, 500, or
- 2023-24 Mitsubishi Outlander Black Edition 2WD 2.5 L Petrol for $47, 000

Had our Tucson Elite 2l diesel with NLine pack for 4 months and agree with your assessment. I had a Sante Fe Elite before and liked the diesel engine especially for highway cruising. However I have found that the Tucson fuel tank only holds 54L compared to 66L in the Sante Fe which is not a lot of range (maybe 750K with not much reserve) depending on where you are driving.
