You don't have to call up flight service to file a pirep, you can give that information right to ATC.

Good to hear. I have given PIREPs without the proper format before and always felt a little guilty. Of course I strive to use the correct format, but I will be less hesitant to make a report now. Thank you.

Hearing from ATC controllers is priceless. Hiding behind the facade of FAA authority, they are people like us pilots and many are pilots. Hearing what they need is most helpful.

Extremely helpful as a pilot who is curious on ATCs thoughts on this.

I'll give more PIREPs now. Thanks!

Yeah, if I'm a pilot about to fly into dangerous icing conditions I couldn't care less how you told the ATC it was there.

As a former Air Traffic Controller, and a current pilot, the most worthless pirep you can give is the basses only report. Pilots can look at Foreflight and see the basses of the thousands of airports that have metar weather. Now if you give basses along with tops, now your talking!

I surprised by the comments. I give PIREPS every leg I fly. Bases, tops, ride, icing....it's part of my regular check in or check off between controllers. Especially in the terminal environment.

This is so awesome to hear. I’be been intimidated by this process, but maybe I’ll give it a go now.

I wish I had this information a long time ago. There were many times I wanted to give a PIREP but was afraid I would do it out of order or leave something out so I didn’t give it. One time was with some pretty nasty turbulence. 😩

Wow always felt self conscious for all this years giving a PIREP not any more.

I give them to FSS when I encounter things not forecast. Don't worry, they will prompt you for anything you leave out that they might need.

ATC most often doesn't get the pirep disseminated through the computer. That is a problem.

I pretty much won't talk to FSS because of issues I had during training with a local FSS radio operator. she was giving me the third degree about not giving her everything on the card in a pirep while i'm up there trying to fly in that shit... no. aviate and navigate take precedence over communicate. i'll talk to someone who isn't going to be a pain in my ass. The guys and gals behind the mic at Potomac Approach are much better to talk with, i'll give my PIREPs to them.
