What would you do if you caught your personal best fish, but didn't have a measuring board or tape to measure it?

That would be so frustrating!

As anglers, we always want to know exactly how big a fish is.

A ballpark estimate just doesn't cut it.

Plus, for the rest of your life, you might be wondering how big that fish actually was.

Nobody wants that, so the two tips in this video will help you get the exact measurement, even if you don't have something to measure your fish with.

All you need is one of two tools, both of which you're guaranteed to have on you if you go fishing.

Check out the two tips in this video.

Have any questions about measuring your fish?

Have any other hacks for measuring them that I didn't cover in this video?

I paint slot marks on my rods and color code them for various species. Since slot sizes vary by region I use the longest measurement statewide for the minimum and the shortest measurement statewide for the maximum. Keeps me out of trouble when I keep the catch no matter where I am if the regulations aren’t what I think they are.

What I always do is measure the distance from the butt end of the rod to the reel. I can usually make pretty accurate estimations from there.

I have wrapped and epoxied hash marks on my rods for common sizes (10, 12, 15, 18, 27 inches) from the handle.

I also have one of those tailor tapes stapled to my tackle bag.

Dollar bill is six inches for a semi accurate ballpark measurement.

Every time I get a new rod I use a like colored perm marker or pint pen and mark my rod every 3-6” that way I’ll always be able to get really close measurements with out having to “call it” lol 😂

Lol I could have watched this yesterday, I caught my first snook and had no way to measure it. I believe it was 13-14 inches.

I use a sharpie and mark one inch increments from the the tip of the rod.

Another option, get a skinny vinyl tape like the one you carry and attach to the back or side of your rod. You will almost never forget it
