Charcuterie boards have a tendency to be overly expensive. I’m talking about dropping between $100-$300 on a single board! And yeah, I understand the quality of food you’re buying is worth it... but we can definitely make some great choices for cheaper that ultimately taste and look the same.

as someone from europe, these food prices blew my mind. i did not know that you had to pay that much for cheese or salami in the us, nevermind 13 dollars for grapes!!! i clutched my heart when i saw that lmao

edit because some people really must think i'm stupid:
1. no i don't think all grapes in the us are 13 dollars, however i study anglistics & american studies and know that food prices are considerably higher in the us compared to where i am from (germany)
2. no it has absolutely nothing to do with currency, 130 dollars are about 100 euros
3. these prices still blow my mind even though i am aware of them probably coming from specialty stores and not from walmart or krogers. i could have all of that for like half at my local italian specialty & delicacy shop. also the cheap board is still expensive so my point still stands. you could have the cheap board for about 15 euros or less (~18 dollars) here in europe.
4. point still stands, be mad about it

story time! my dad used to have a Russian roommate who would have "charcuterie boards" as meals. Mainly because they were broke college students and it IS affordable. So growing up my family always called charcuterie boards "Russian plate". It's how we have thanksgiving and is always our money saving, low energy dinner hack.

I remember once while making a cheese board, the grocery store Made a major mistake on a sale price and I was able to buy quite a decent sized wheel of brie for just over $1. 😂

I’m not picking josh to back me in a fight, my man missed about 10 punches on a stationary block of cheese

The fact that he bought blue cheese just to punch it, is a move I respect so much I can't even put it into words.

Aldi has almost EVERYTHING you need to build a very nice board at an affordable price.

That $30 board is probably $60 a year later . . . if you can even find the items at the grocery store! What a difference a year makes!

Watching that video I just thought to myself: how blessed I am to live in Europe, where high quality cheeses for relatively affordable prices are reality

That was actually a really good Gouda pronounciation! Well done Joshua, I won't yell at you this time ;)

I just love how you went and said Gouda in the dutch way. I’m dutch so I can respect that ;)
I do have the luxury of being within cycling distance of cheese makers/mongers where I live and since I’m not a fan of the stronger cheeses, very happy with the cheeses and varieties they have.

They have a lot of younger cheeses with different herbs and spices, which we usually get some pieces of for special occasion or sometimes a nice snack. (It’s great to get your cheese sliced freshly in front of you and even be able to taste a little bit if your hesitant with a new one 😁

This made me realize how lucky we europeans are for getting the expensive stuff for much cheaper

If you're making pickled onions or anything pickled that requires you to pour boiling water into a glass jar, don't forget to warm up your jar a bit or at least make sure it's not cold straight from the cellar or something xdd It can crack.

This was the most perfectly timed video. I was prepping a cheap ass charcuterie board for a little family bday today. You helped give me some much needed inspiration!!
I quick pickled some carrots and red onion from my garden, took out some of my homemade strawberry jam, & toasted up some salted cashews and honey spiced walnuts. Thanks for helping me class it up a notch 😄
