AUTOTRADER REVIEW: What to Know Before You Buy or Sell

Welcome back to the channel! Today, I'm gonna talk about a recent experience I had with the Autotrader Private Seller Exchange, or PSX for short. My testimony is important because I did both at the same time: buy a car from a private party and sell my car to a private party through PSX.

If you're thinking about buying or selling a car privately, this is definitely something you need to know about because in this video I’ll tell you what it is, how it works, pros and cons, and if I recommend it. I also will tell you what I learned from using it and how you can save time if you decide to buy or sell a car through PSX.

So, what is PSX? Basically, it's a service from Autotrader that makes private car sales way easier and possibly safer. PSX acts as a middleman that handles all the annoying stuff, like verifying identities, transferring titles, and even handling the money.

Again: This is my personal experience with Autotrader Private Seller Exchange. Yours will vary. I wish mine had been as smooth as they make it appear on the promo video.

This is my original video on the TSX:

It took 6 days for your payment to process?? I bought a car on Autotrader tonight and already had my flight booked for tomorrow to pick it up and then the seller tells me it says it's still processing so hopefully it processes quickly ... I'm about to be screwed aren't I 😂 going to be a nightmare if I have to stay at a hotel for 6 days 😭

Thank you for taking the time to make such an informative video. I really enjoyed hearing that your wife was able to help you get through a difficult situation.

Thanks for the video. I'm an experienced buyer and I would not use PSX. Way too much hassle.

we sold my wife’s 2016 Civic to Toyota dealer mainly because it was a safe and easy transaction. i could have go $2K more from Carvana but i heard about all the problems with them and I didn’t want the headaches. We got the check next day and worked with a real person the whole transaction. they made it easy and risk free. the last time I used AT was on paper in the 90s. 😂 As I got older Easy and risk free was more important than a bit more money.

Sorry to hear sbout your PSX hassles, as a recent seller on the Exchange I had no problem with my transaction. The person who eventually bought the car drove from 4 hrs away to pick it up because he believed the transaction would be honest and safe for both parties involved. When I listed the car for sale on all the regular used car sites I was getting a lot of low ball offers so that is why I decided to use PSX instead and I got more or less what I was asking. Your mileage may vary when using any used car site to buy or sell a vehicle, again sorry about your experience, thanks for posting the video.

So crazy how times have changed...I was a photographer for Auto Trader back in the 90s... $27.95 and they ran the ad until it sold 😅....

Would never use PSX again! Complete disaster. I've used AT many times buying and selling before PSX and never had an issue. AT is now creating an underground selling market. No show sellers are an issue if you actually want to see the car. I would not recommend considering a car through PSX.

WOW! So PSX makes either $79+99 or $79+1% of sales price from the seller AND makes another $400 off of the buyer!@?! I'd rather do bringatrailer...
