How to Cut an Avocado Safely

As the popularity of avocado increases, avocado hand injuries are also happening more and more frequently to people who don’t know how to cut an avocado safely. Cutting any food in the palm of your hand is never a good idea because it just takes one slip of the knife to cause a serious injury. To avoid cutting yourself, place the avocado on the cutting board and cut the fruit in half length-wise around the seed. As shown in the video, rotate the avocado ¼ turn and repeat. Once your avocado is cut into four pieces, you can easily remove the seed by separating the quarters with your hand. Separating the avocado flesh from the skin this way also maximizes the nutrition because the most nutrient dense part of the avocado is actually closest to the skin!

Ty, I've done the knife trick many times, but it scares me + if the avocado is super soft, then the knife is most certainly going to slip. I don't want an avocado hand, so I'm going to do it the less exciting way, but safer. :)

I've done it the traditional way for decades and never seen a problem, even inebriated. To remove the pit, pinch from around the back of the blade. Something tells me the people getting injured would have ended up in the ER for something else anyway, like alcohol poisoning or racing lawnmowers.

There's a much better method we use in latinamerica. Slice it in half, then use a spoon. It's faster and safer than this method.
