Two things I respect about PG:

1. He has the balls and the hand strength to play with gain levels that don't hide much (in other words, he doesn't hide behind pre-gain-laden overdrive that does some of the magic for you), and;

2. He has matured like fine wine in his playing. Where he used to shred and shred, he now plays with a really killer soulful approach and saves the speed for where it has the most impact.

Mad respect for PG, and I'm not even a huge fan.

thing I have always admired about Paul Gilbert more than his obvious talent is his willingness to teach & share. he's also super humble & in it for the love, not the money. kudos!!!

It was late 1985 early 1986 and my band was practicing at Hotdog Sound Studio in Arleta California. WE were taking a break from our practice set and a couple of guys poked theirs heads in our room and said, "what's up?" we talked for a few minutes, and they went back to setting up their equipment in the big sound room next to ours. We went back to playing until our time was up and we started breaking down our equipment to put it back in our lockout cabinet. It was at this time I heard music coming from the next room. I could not believe my ears! I had never heard such musicianship in my life! These guys were unbelievable! I asked the sound guy at the front desk "Who are these guys???" He said they are a new band called "Racer X", They just started practicing here a few weeks ago. We walked back down the hall and poked our heads in their door and noticed it was the same guys we had talked to earlier. The bass player said we could watch for a few if we wanted. We hung out for a few, but our presence seemed like a distraction, so we only sat in for about 1 song. Talk about a humbling experience ☹. After we walked out, we just kind of stood around and looked at each other in our practice room while we put the rest of our gear away. We thought we were pretty good until that night. These guys weren't even on the same planet as us! I am not a great guitar player; I am decent but nothing special. These guys had me asking myself "why am I even bothering?!?" They were that good! We saw them practice there a few more times but we knew they wouldn't be practicing at that dump for very long 😆

I was friends with Paul, and a guitar student, back in the Racer-X days. Paul, and the entire Racer-X band, were all great musicians and down-to-earth, cool guys. I was there for the recording of the Mr. Big "Addicted to that Rush" video, such a cool experience. Back in those days, I was the lead guitarist for a band called "Redline". We opened for Racer-X at the majority of their shows. I have so many great memories and stories from those years (I could probably write a book).

One of the best shredders. Hands down. Excellent choice to cover Paul and his work. Randy Rhoads did a guitar clinic in Greenburg, PA. In early 1982, and who was there but Paul Gilbert as a teenager. i would've killed to have been there. Great content as always it's one of the best channels if you want to know the most about great rock musicians. Thanks again ! 💯🔥🎸

I still have that blue Paul Gilbert PGM blue Ibanez. Paul conducted in person guitar clinics at Thoroughbred Music Warehouse in Tampa Florida. He stayed all weekend literally played all day long and didn't even take a lunch break he had a working lunch and was eating and playing and talking to the students / audience. Unbelievably humble and all around cool guy. I want to say this is pre Mr Big's second release. The guitar world, ADA pre amps and harmonizers, being a guitarist was amazing then!

He’s a living jukebox. At his core, he is an amazing musician who just happens to be an insane shredder.

I recently wrote and recorded an album with original Racer X members Jeff Martin and Harry Gschoesser. Paul joined us on 3 songs and we played some insane guitar solo exchanges. He was also kind enough to give me the guitar that was custom built for his Beatles tribute with Portnoy. Paul is one of the kindest and nicest guys in the music biz, apart from being an amazing guitarist and musician!

Paul is the most complete guitar player I've heard.🤘 An Elite shredder who can also play "mainstream" music.🔥

Found Paul's videos when I was around 15 or 16 during 2010. He has been one of the guitarists I catered my technical style and probably the only guitarist who teaches with the finest attention to detail. I am an indirect student of yours, Paul. Thank you so much!

At 70 years old I've seen many of the biggest bands ever in concerts from the 70s 80s and 90s. Small venues to stadiums. What a Awesome times we had. I'll go to my grave saying that the most incredible, fun and entertaining of them ALL. Mr. Big playing at the Paramount club (Large Dive Bar 🍻) in Amarillo Texas!!! What a Freaking Party it was.
If there was ever a time when " if the house is a rockin don't bother knockin." was a True statement, It was definitely that night.
Thanks Paul, Billy and Crew for the incredible memories.

The most solid, clean and consistent alternate picking chops I've ever heard! Pairing him up with Billy Sheehan on bass was just mind-blowing! The way those 2 could harmonize parts while shredding and being exactly on-point was some seriously next-level playing!
