Nothing Phone (2a) vs Samsung Galaxy A35 Comparison Review

And we're back at it again with another head-to-head specs comparison, this time between the Nothing Phone 2a and the Samsung Galaxy A35.

At a budget less than PHP 25K, the question is, which is the one for you?

LOL. This is probably near biased asf.

You didn't mention some pretty vitally important aspects of these 2 phones. Expandable storage, IP water-resistance ratings, actual build quality, some parts of the camera.

The Nothing Phone 2A only has IP54 dust and water splash resistance meanwhile the A35 gets a whole IP67 dust and water submersion.


You drop that Nothing Phone 2A in a puddle and it would have issues, the A35 would probably be 95% fine in most cases.

With the Nothing Phone 2A, you are capped at 128/256gb of storage meanwhile the a35 can have a microSD card up to 1TB. Those are pretty big deals in terms of features you just simply overlooked at.

The Nothing phone has a slightly better camera, display, processor, but it doesn't blow the A35 out of the water in those comparison. Its either just usually slightly better or comes down to personal preference and not that noticeable in day to day usage in most cases.

You also discreetly overlooked the glass build of both phones. Nothing phone only has Gorilla Glass 5 and the A35 has the Victus+. That's literally 3 generation step-ups in terms of glass durability and scratch resistance. Gorilla Glass 5<Gorilla Glass 6<Gorilla Glass Victus<Gorilla Glass Victus+.

The A35's selfie camera can also record video at 4k 30 fps, the Nothing phone 2A can't. Only its rear cam. That's a huge thing for some people wanting to record videos on their selfie cams.

I'd personally say both phones have their clear strengths and weaknesses and you honestly can't go wrong either way. The Nothing Phone 2a doesn't "win" this comparison.

If its anything, I'd honestly even say the A35 wins this due to simply having more features and superior materials used.

You also have to consider that the Samsung A35 gets 4 years of major software updates and 5 years of security patches from Samsung. It will get Android 18.

The Nothing Phone 2A would probably get at best 3 years of software updates and around 4 years of security patches.

There's also the Samsung ecosystem now and its way more stable and secure (Samsung Account, Samsung Knox Vault, Secure Folder) in terms of you keeping and transferring your sensitive info and all if the phone gets stolen or you are going to change phones.

If you're the type who changes phones after 2-3 years, I think Nothing 2a is the better choice. But if you just want a reliable midranger that would last longer with the software updates and not really phone-conscious, then the A35, for me, is the better choice.

Just to let everyone know 6:18 the Dimensity 7200 Pro is not found in other smartphones, since the chip is co-engineered by Nothing & Mediatek, so Phone (2a) is the only phone that has this. Yes other phones has the Dimensity 7200 and Dimensity 7200 Ultra, but not the Dimensity 7200 Pro. Hopefully that makes sense.

Please include the Aspect Ratio of the screen displays on future reviews/comparisons. While the Nothing Phone 2A has a better overall display, It's on a taller and narrower 20:9 aspect ratio while the A35 has A Wider 19:5:9 screen more akin to iPhones. I'd take a Wider 19:5:9 screen any day than any high end 20:9 skinny display and Samsung is the only Android Brand that offers that in the current market.

Nothing phone 2a is over saturated and maybe that's your taste and why you like it. A35 has much natural vibe to it.

I am searching for a new phone and i was really thinking about which to get nothing phone 2a or a35. I think nothing phone is a good phone just the samsung is built to last. (Software support, built and future proof). The reason i think thay because i am coming from realme gt master and it was a good phone for like a year and a half. Whoch is why i decide to buy a samsung which is built to last (most of my samsung devices lasted for long)

I just got the A35 (replacing a 7 year old Sony Xperia XZ1! 😄) and so far I am happy with my purchase. Highlights for me are the macro camera (it takes very nice close up shots of wildlife etc. if that's your thing) and responsiveness (not surprising coming from a 7 year old phone! LOL). Downside so far is the sketchy fingerprint recognition, which seems to work when it wants, but not 100% of the time, unlike my old Sony. That's a big disappointment. I did look at the Nothing Phone 2a before getting the Samsung, but it looked a bit "gimmicky" and cheap compared to the A35, IMO.

Being older I find the super small print on things like a phone charger requires a macro pic to zoom in and read.
A very useful tool.
