Koi Fish Johnny

Well here we go scientist Johnny can he take his L plates off or am I missing something?

I talk through koi keeping and the effect things can have on your pond and water quality. Like ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, KH which is spelt with a C weirdly. Phosphate etc etc.

Pond keeping is complex and there is a lot to learn but I try my best to break down and share what I have learnt so far with you guys.

Im no professional here Im just a koi enthusiast looking to develop.

Fish pond koi keeping for life baby.

I totally agree with what you said Johnny. When someone starts out, it can all be a bit overwhelming, but when you start digging into the nitty gritty of understanding water parameters, spotting potential issues and identifying parasites etc, once you understand the causes and remedies you can look at the issue and think, "I know what the problem is, and I know how to fix it"

Once you apply what you have learned for the first time, you get a great sense of satisfaction knowing that the more you understand your pond, fish and their behaviours, the easier keeping them Sometimes 😏🤔😂

Keep up the great work mate👍

Totally loved this vid, I too have only been at this for a short while. The knowledge and expertise by experience is second to none. I'm no chemist but your explanation of the chemicals to watch out for was utterly amazing. Love the channel keep it up take care G

The pupil is becoming the teacher👍😊. Nice to see how enthusiastic you are when your passing on the knowledge you’ve learned ( god bless those Turkey Vultures) you are definitely doing your homework and that will stand you in good stead moving forward👏👍. Re the KH buffer, just remember that it’s OK to make mistakes …….as long as you learn from them🤞👍. You’re doing a grand job, keep it up buddy👍🐟🈲😊

for adding the Bi-carb have a look at Lee Hadfield Koi Soldier. He is using a small aquarium feeder to distribute it

Johnny, tell me more about your filtration system. I saw some videos and you have a Nexus, which is both a mechanical and biological filtration. What else you got there? How many cubic foot of media do you have in your system? How many gallons is your system? What is your current flow rate (aka, turn over rate)?

Koi Tech Johnny - like it, ditch the vest for a white overcoat, maybe big glasses . Well Done Mate really interesting vid and I like the way you are trying to improve your own personal approach/ learning. Comes across really well👍

With light exposure bicarbonate will just be feeding algae instead of the filters. Also algae prefers ammonia 4 times or more than nitrates as a food source. It’s actually very inefficient for algae to consume nitrates. Algae gets first pick at ammonia as they come out of this gills.

My daughter's High School Debate topic was USA drinking water supply and the use of government funds to improve. It is amazing how water quality differs on public systems.

It takes time to understand the pond cycle and how your pond and its levels starting from the tap water to you dumping the water down the drain after its time in the pond. Every pond varies and no one can tell anyone the right way to Filter and Bio Filter a pond all you can do is learn your pond and fish load and how it works and pass on tips on what works for you. On top of this i can tell you the age of the pond helps get 3 to 4 years of running and the water ages like wine old water is better than new water and always 100% over filter a pond.

Fairplay your starting to understand the science behind koi keeping well done bro just remember to keep an eye on your ph if adding bi carb I used it and my ph shot up quick so very small amount at a time mate and also check your koi food as sometimes they are high in phosphate just another thing for you to look at 😉👍

Your right mate nobody is ever 100% correct in everything we do, what works for one doesnt work for another, like watching a left handed person open a tin of corned beef lol, taken my partner years to learn, cant do it right handed but makes me want to cringe every time she does it

Be careful mate with the powders. On that scale you shown baking soda and bicarbonate of soda are one and the same. Ph of 9. Where as sodium carbonate also known as soda Ash has a ph of 12. 👍
