Vsauce said that Betelgeuse's Supernova will shine brighter than the moon at night, and for a few weeks it will look like Earth has 2 suns

This is crazy cause last night I was stargazing at Orion and asked myself how big betelgeuse would look in our night sky if it replaced the sun, and then this morning I get recommended this! I think it's fair to say that if it really did replace the sun I wouldn't have any sky to gaze upon

Says Betelgeuse 3 times
"It's showtime!"
says Betelgeuse 3 more times.
Not today.

I was seriously looking for beetlejuice to walk past behind him on his third time saying it. (Basically the community gag)

Nice choice with the Beetlejuice soundtrack

If Betelgeuse would blow, it would be so bright that it would be visible in a day sky.

If Betelgeuse went supernova right now it would take 642.5 years for us to see it

Edit: thanks for 1k likes

Beetlejuice just casually hanging around where the sun is supposed to be, he’s probably be the one moving the sun too 😂💀

The fact that something so big beyond comprehension is a spec in the sky really puts the distance into perspective

Hello! If we were to replace our Sun with Betelgeuse, a red supergiant star, it would have significant consequences for our solar system. Betelgeuse is much larger and more luminous than our Sun. Here are some potential outcomes:

1. **Increased luminosity:** Betelgeuse is about 14, 000 times more luminous than the Sun. If it replaced our Sun, the increased brightness would significantly affect the illumination of the planets in our solar system.

2. **Change in planetary orbits:** The gravitational influence of Betelgeuse would alter the orbits of planets in our solar system. This could lead to disruptions and changes in the stability of planetary systems.

3. **Different habitability:** Betelgeuse has a much shorter lifespan compared to the Sun. While the Sun has been stable for about 4.6 billion years, Betelgeuse is a relatively young star with an estimated age of a few million years. This difference in age could affect the potential habitability of planets.

4. **Possibility of a supernova:** Betelgeuse is known to be a candidate for a supernova explosion in the future. If it were to go supernova in our solar system, it would have catastrophic consequences, potentially causing the destruction of nearby planets and altering the conditions for life as we know it.

It's important to note that such a hypothetical scenario involves significant changes to the fundamental conditions of our solar system, and the consequences would likely be far-reaching and complex.

It's very possible it already has gone supernova, and it's just taking that long for the light to get to us.

For all we know Beetlejuice has already super nova and it is just waiting to reach earth with the light wave.

Recent work suggests Betelgeuse may have already supernova'd and between 1 and 80 years from now we'll likely see the event when the light gets here. Current signals from Betelgeuse apparently show it as fusing into Carbon. When it gets close to Iron, you'll be able to measure its apparent life as less than a week.

I knew Beetlejuice was going to get a supernova named after him! What a legend! 🪲 🥤
