Max Steiner was an Austrian composer of music for theatre and films and is often referred to as "The Father Of Film Music". Steiner was one of the best-known composers in Hollywood and was nominated for the Academy Award a total of 24 times. His film scores of "The Informer", "Now", "Voyager" and "Since You Went Away" all won him Academy Awards. Probably his two best known film scores are "Casablanca" and "Gone With The Wind". The 1960 hit "Theme from A Summer Place" (recorded by Percy Faith) was composed by Max Steiner. He was the 1st recipient of the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, for his score to "Life with Father". In 1995 Steiner was inducted posthumously into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has a star located at 1551 Vine Street on the Walk of Fame for his contribution to motion pictures.

Parrish is a 1961 American drama film made by Warner Bros. It was written, produced and directed by Delmer Daves, based on Mildred Savage's 1958 novel of the same name. The music score was by Max Steiner, the Technicolor cinematography by Harry Stradling Sr., the art direction by Leo K. Kuter and the costume design by Howard Shoup. The film stars Troy Donahue, Claudette Colbert (in her final theatrical film role), Karl Malden, Dean Jagger, Connie Stevens, Diane McBain, Sharon Hugueny, Sylvia Miles, Madeleine Sherwood and Hayden Rorke.

The film shows the story of conflict between a young, independently minded man and his stepfather, a ruthless tobacco tycoon. Young Parrish McLean and his mother live on Sala Post's tobacco plantation in the state of Connecticut. His mother marries Post's ambitious rival Judd Raike, who then sets about ruining Post.
