Do you know the names of Canadian provinces and territories along with their capital cities? In today’s English lesson you will learn the names of places in Canada and enjoy gaining knowledge about Canadian geography and culture.

As we travel around the map of Canada, you’ll learn the names of the Canadian provinces and territories. You will also learn how to pronounce the names of their capital cities, and other important places. In addition to teaching you how to pronounce the names of places in Canada, this lesson will also teach you about the differences between Canada’s territories and provinces.

What are Canada’s Territories and the names of their capital cities?:
Yukon - Whitehorse
Northwest Territories - Yellowknife
Nunavut - Iqaluit

*Video correction:
My pronunciation of Nunavut in this video has been corrected by many and it seems it should pronounced like 'Noon - a - vut', not 'Nun - a -vut'... despite what I learned in school when it first became a territory 😅.

What are Canada’s Provinces and the names of their capital cities?:
British Columbia (BC) - Victoria
Alberta - Edmonton
Saskatchewan - Regina
Manitoba - Winnipeg
Ontario - Toronto
Quebec - Quebec City
Newfoundland and Labrador - St. John’s
New Brunswick - Fredericton
Prince Edward Island (PEI) - Charlottetown
Nova Scotia - Halifax

* The capital of Canada is Ottawa. Ottawa is Ontario.

By the end of today’s English lesson you will have learned how to pronounce Canadian provinces and territories and cities to help you speak like a Canadian and sound like a native English speaker. Thank you for watching, “What are Canada’s Provinces and Territories?: Names of Canadian Provinces, Territories, and Cities!” I hope you’ll enjoy learning about Canadian places and that in the future you will be able to travel to Canada and visit some of our provinces and territories for yourself. I loved yours video but I would make a little correction about the maritimes provinces. Newfoundland and Labrador isn’t included in the Maritime provinces. When we refer all 4 provinces we’d say the Atlantic provinces. The maritimes are only NB, PEI and NS. The easiest way to remember that difference is simply coming back from the time NL entered late into Canada in 1949. Before it was still a British colony. That’s also why it’s the only province who still has a territories within their frontier, which is Labrador and territories of Inuit on the tip of Labrador.

Also Nunavut have 4 official language. French, english, inuktitut and inuinnaqtun.
Nunavut means out land and Iqualuit means place with lots of fishes.

Hi Jen,

Yes, I’ve seen this lesson several times, because I keep forgetting the provinces and their capitals. I need to memorize them. This is a very useful lesson for me, thank you 🙏🏻.
The Netherlands 🇳🇱 has twelve provinces. One of them is special, because it’s actually the bodem of the North Sea. We drained the water in the past and it has become land. It’s called a ‘polder’. The province Flevoland is such a polder. In the past it was part of the North Sea, also named; Zuiderzee. But then the Dutch people made a dike between the North Sea and the Zuiderzee called; Afsluitdijk. It became a big lake called; IJsselmeer. After they drained the water in the South of that lake, it became a province called; Flevoland. And later on the made another polder called; Noordoostpolder that became part of the province Flevoland. Also the reason they called Holland the Netherlands, because the land is under the Sea level. If we don’t maintain our dikes, the land would be overflown by the sea 🌊…

Jen, I'm really excited to see your map of Canada. It brings back vivid memories of the past. I know the provinces of Quebec, I worked for a while in Schefferville three km from Labrador province, and after coming back from Montreal where I lived for two years, I´ve visited Ontario, and twice the cities of Vancouver and the beautiful Victoria city driving a rented car from Seattle USA, to Vancouver and from there a ferry through the strait of Georgia to Sidney and driving to Victoria …

Spain is divided into 17 autonomous regions called “Comunidades Autonomas”, plus two Autonomous Cities “Ceuta and Melilla” located in Spanish territory in North Africa. Each Community has its capital city, and they are divided into one or several provinces.
The community of Madrid has only one province, called Madrid. Each community has a representative, called the President of the Community. The city of Madrid is also the Capital of Spain.
Thanks for your cool lesson. 👏🏼

Excellent article on the 3 Canadian territories and 10 provinces. I was fortunate and lucky to study in Toronto (2009 - 2010) and learned a lot about Canadian culture. And to this day I know how to locate all of them on the map, including the name of the capitals. I am a Brazilian citizen and here we currently have 26 states and a Federal District, thus called the capital Brasília, which is located in the central plateau of Brazil, within the State of Goiás. Brazil. My country is also very big with about 8, 517, 000 km² against Canada's 9, 984, 000 km². I leave here my most sincere greetings to the people of Canada, where I have made many friends and miss them. P.S.: My ears thank you for your clean and clear pronunciation.

Great job, I returned back to this lesson to determine one province or territory to choose to travel to. I prefere the ones which may have coasts, however Ontario is the biggest province and have nayagra falls. I'll search in those two first. Northwest territories will maybe the third preference for me. What do you think Ms Jen?

Binging your Canadian videos... They’re really helpful, thank you for your hard work :) A small video request, I hope you get to make more videos on Canada and Canadian culture in general... Anything from things only Canadians face living there, or little culture facts, or more things on the general lifestyle would be nice. It’s so satisfying listening to you speaking top-notch English, keep up the great work!

I found J.J. McCullough’s channel a while back, and thanks to his videos and yours, my knowledge about Canada is skyrocketing now!

It’s fascinating yet hard to imagine how life can be in the northern territories...must be tremendously beautiful but awfully cold!

Japan is a tiny country, but our territory is divided into 47 prefectures, and I sometimes have a hard time recalling the positioning and capital city names of the prefectures I’ve never been to. 🧐
