Boris woke up in the middle of the night to a swarm of buzzing bees. They flew into the light and swarmed around the light bulb on our porch. I got stung by a wasp or a bee a few days ago, so he figured out a way to get rid of them. He turned off the light, but the bees found their way to our solar light. That is one of the beauties of living in nature. The next day we went to our local hospital in Hinatuan. I have a lump behind my ear that I think is a cyst. It started to hurt after I was stung by a wasp. This is the first time we have come to our local hospital. We were impressed. It's clean and the people are friendly. Our friend Rhea helped us contact the surgeon at the hospital. The first thing the nurse did was to take my blood pressure and weight. Everything is normal. After a while we met the surgeon. He took a look at the lump behind my ear and said it wasn't dangerous and didn't need surgery. He prescribed some antibiotics and painkillers. I was so relieved to find out that there's nothing wrong with me. We bought the prescribed medicine at the pharmacy in front of the hospital. Before going home, we went to our lawyer's office to sign some of the necessary papers. Being here feels like déjà vu when we bought our first land. It was such a surreal moment. We have been living in this province for almost two months now and we love it here. On our way home, we passed a stall selling fruits and vegetables. The dragon fruit is our favorite here. We bought several kilos of dragon fruit, some vegetables and bananas.
In our barangay of Dugmanon, there are local carenderias where you can eat delicious food at cheap prices. We personally love this one carenderia, their food is delicious. Today is a weekday so there are a lot of students eating here. In the Philippines, elementary and high school students have classes all day from 8am to 4pm. Seeing these kids brings back memories of when I was a student.

Darlene, it is not normal to have a lump behind the ear specifically when you've had it since your teen years. The video of your visit did not show if the doctor palpated your lymph nodes which I hope he did. In any case, I'm glad he prescribed the antibiotic. Watch the lump daily and determine if it is decreasing in size and improving with the antibiotic, and remember to take all the medication.
If after completing the treatment you find no change or improvement, feel the lump if it is "hard", and you are still having pain, you need to get a consultation from an EENT doctor (eyes, ears, nose, throat) because that could be serious.
Meantime, there are self-care you can try as an adjunct to treatment.
1. Daily hydration is a must, drink enough fluid, "salabat" or fresh ginger tea 3x a day is good, it has anti-inflammatory effects
2. Apply a warm compress, if you have blocked lymphatic drainage, the warmth will dilate your vessels and relieve pain
3. When you take baths, gently scrub behind the ear folds with a soft washcloth and soap, it stimulates the sebaceous glands and releases accumulated oil from sweat after being in the sun all day.
4. Bring or tie up your long hair while working in sweats to air out your ears
Get well!

Darlene, I find it odd that the doctor told you that lump was nothing. And he even said he has the same thing. 😅You should seek further treatment for it especially you had that lump since you were young. Usually what they do here in the states, a specialist doctor will conduct a needle biopsy to take a sample of what's inside or some kind of ultrasound or x-ray to further check what's inside the lump, to know of it's malignant or cancerous. Don't be afraid. It's better to be treated than it will turn worst later on. Hope you feel better.

Bugs are attracted to bright lights, as I had an automatic outdoor light, and it attracted swarms of bugs. I finally switched out to a "yellow" light:. I am glad everything went well with your visit to Hinatuan Hospital. Its nice to have good friends to help out, like Rhea. I also had a "lump' behind my ear many years ago. I finally went to the doctor, and he drained the "lump" and no more lumps there for over 20 years. Take Care, Darlene and Boris.

Darlene, you have a very good doctor . Hinatuan District Hospital is lucky to have a doctor like him. Thank you ma'am Rhea for assisting Darlene. Hopefully the antibiotic is the solution for the pain. Also, Borris, turn off the lights if you saw white ants on your bulbs. In 30 minutes, it will go away. It's a sign that on the coming days, there are plenty of rains . ( That's only what i observe.). Stay safe both of you & always enjoy the province life. 🙏💖

I love the sound similar to what i used to when i was growing older from elementary grade. Now i am senior and find it difficult to see this specially the firefly. I love firefly but cant see them anymore. The road where we could sit in the middle and tell story with friends for more than an hour but now you cant even sit for a minute because motorcycle is often passing trough much often than every minute. I miss the old days with my friends who are now migrated to America. Love you guys...more power and stay healthy. May you have kids in near future 🙏..

Apply a warm, wet compress, such as a washcloth dipped in hot water and wrung out, to the affected area. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever.

Those insects were not bees but moths (gamu-gamo) They abound in areas with trees and shrubs and come out in swarms during the rainy season and are attracted to lights. When their wings come off, they often hide behind wooden furnitures and books shelves and I was told they are the termites that eat anything wooden. We would usually put a basin with water nearly to the brim and place on a table under the light source. Since the light is also reflected on the water, they would dive in and drown.
