As a plumber I usually gag when I see people do plumbing vids. The insulation in bored holes is great. It was a good time watching. The only thing I would say is shower valves with simple chrome trim in single lever are pretty cheap. What they offer is pressure balancing that ball valves do not. That way when another cold fixture is turned on it doesn't scald you in the shower. It makes it worse if everything is 1/2". The other thing is the 1/2" braided lines on water heater are going to cut your pressure. You could bush up to regular water heater connections and back to 1/2" pex. The pex 90 bend supports were pro, and eliminates chances for leaks. Good luck God bless.

Insulating your Pex is not necessary if you properly insulated your exterior walls. What your doing is blocking free interior heat from your heating system and normal interior occupation leaving your home. Pex is tuff stuff. Your bringing in water that in probably almost freezing and with the thermo dynamics heat moves out of your home. Cold air does not come in. It's a one way street for heat. Proper insulation on exterior walls keeps heat in. Cold doesn't just roll in.

one thing not mentioned on this vidio is that pex pipe if it freezes will not split or break like copper and pvc does

Something else you might want to consider. If you have looked at the plumbing new construction, you have probably seen a pipe teeing off somewhere in the line, and going a few feet and then being capped off. This is not an accident. It is used as a shock absorber for when water is shut off, or on, but mostly off. What this does is acts as a cushion to flowing water so you don't get the loud bang when the water is turned off. Usually teeing off and going up the wall for about two feet and then being capped off, it doesn't let much water go up the pipe because the trapped air will not let it go up. Air will compress, water will not, so when you turn the water off, it will want to keep going because of inertia, so when it is stopped suddenly, the cushion of air will compress with the force of the water, and allow it to stop more slowly with no bang. Whew, thought it was going to be easier to explain than that.

Putting the sill gasket behind the pipes is a very good idea, even that little bit will make a big difference.

Thank you guys for making these videos! I have seen them all and they are very helpful! I plan on making my own tiny house in the future and I have little to no experience building.. So thanks again for posting!

Great series of videos. Well done for all your hard work on them.

I really like how you use two shutoff valves and a rain shower head in your shower instead of a regular wall mounted head and valve.  I might have to use that idea.

Don't forget nail protectors where pex runs through studs. Thanks.

Love it! Everything is coming along very nicely! Each video gives me something to go out and research and learn about!

I think you're supposed to slack the pex piping since they're plastic and will move and expand

What is the function of the square manifold (heater input, square manifold, two outputs) at 7:20? If it's explained in the next video, I can wait. Great project, thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Did you guys use Teflon Tape on your treads from heater to pex? The teflon tape is cheap and makes sure you don't have leaks when using a threaded connection in a water system. Actually any threads, even at the shower head attachment should have teflon tape. Just a helpful tip. Awesome Videos!

you might think about a hand held shower with a wall mount bracket.  that way you can rinse only the parts you want to rinse..  :)

excellent!
I was wondering about the water pressure having to run the water up and over to the shower does that unit have a water pump too?

You know what I've been thinking, it would be so cool if the Discovery channel would pick up all your videos and with some more editing, adding in more you could have a great show that would be awesome to watch.  I mean yes we can all watch them here but you guys could get paid like the Duck Dynasty guys, , , LOL

You have finally done something I disagree with! LOL, The Ball valve idea Im not too fond of-I see problems in the future. Another thing, While you were at it you should have added a winterization system to the water system. By pass valves for the water heater and low point drains. Whos to say that in the future this unit may not be used in the winter. always good to be prepared for the unknown. But otherwise its a fantastic job!

You guys did GREAT job showing how it's done. Did the pipes freeze? I may have to put my pipes on an outside wall as well and was wondering. How cold does it get there? Thank you
