I am looking forward to Ruby 3.0's approach to type checking and its effects on the Rails ecosystem.

I hope the upcoming Ruby3 will make some optimistic effects on the other areas of applications development besides rails.

"If everything goes as expected, we will release Ruby 3.0". What could go wrong in 2020? A: Coronavirus

I think the single biggest drawback in the ruby community is the lack of variety of software and libraries. Most people are so focused in building rails apps, that most other parts are lacking in terms of libs. Python for instance has tons of ML libraries and scientific libraries. JS has libraries in every field even editors. and it is damn fast.

I know Ruby lived and died by Rails in the west, but doesn't it remain extremely popular in Japan? The disappointment is understandable but I would leave the bleak talk to the Rails project maintainers.

I think Ruby needs some another new killer library or framework, or the future looks bleak
