Why the Donkey Kong Redesign is Better 🍌

DK was redesigned for Mario Kart World & Donkey Kong Bananza for the Nintendo Switch 2, some hated it some loved it, what do you think?

I adore the old Rare model but the new one is growing on me very quickly. Its super expressive.

Rareware’s team was truly rare. Not even having a nostalgia bias, but they were truly ahead of their time. IMO if they didn’t get bought out and kept going at the rate they were they would’ve been #1. They just had a certain life to their games

The Rare look was not "perpetually angry" and I don't know why people keep insisting that it was. My concern over the updated look was that they made DK look too cute and cuddly. Like they Mario-fied him, at first I thought they stripped away DK's edge. But having seen the Bananza trailer, I'm comforted knowing that he still has his bad ass brutishness.

Mario got a noticeable redesign in 2002 and I don't recall anyone making a big deal over it

In my personal opinion, this doesn't even look like Donkey Kong anymore. He's a totally different Kong.

The DKC design doesn't look angry all the time though, don't know why people keep saying this. Also the DKC design can be expressive, him having a new design doesn't mean he can now be more expressive, that makes no sense.

The new one reminds me of DK from the original Mario Kart on SNES.

Old one is better. They could’ve kept it and still make it more expressive

I kinda prefer the old one, the froncing eye brows made him look continuously confident, like an unbreakable and strong spirit, which made me feel invincible when playing dk country.

Nah, Rare's is better. Just because someone else did the orignal design, doesnt make future ones lesser.

Hell, even Miyamoto has touched up his own characters in later games.

Id prefer if this was the son of the dk from rare carrying the dk name the redesign would make sense

You make some good points, but this change was definitely made to avoid paying Rare every time DK was used. Honestly surprised they built the theme park with the SNES design
