As always, you bring the best discussion topics and we've gotten to the point where Adam is just filming us hanging out and ranting. Love it! Looking forward to next time.

I love watching Steve and Gordon chat like this. I would also listen to a podcast co hosted by both of them....every week

The other problem with leaks is drivers. You might get X, pre-launch and then an optimized driver comes out 3-6 months later and you get Y. Ray Tracing was a feature where the driver mattered more than I think most people thought.

That comment about people building their rigs around leaks... I bought a 1300W PSU because of the 4080 leaks. I ended up not even buying the card because it wouldn't fit inside my case 🤣

ALWAYS is AWESOME seeing techtubers interact on topics in this events. Also seeing their personalities interact on NON TOPICS. Would be nice to have a summit every 6 months on the State of Tech.

I'm still crushed that Threadripper 5000 didnt exist. My planned upgrade path is in shambles.

I personally only get my leaks from specific channels that have a good rapport in regards to the accuracy of their leaks. Even then, I NEVER plan my build around a product until it's been out for at least six months, as you never know if a product might have a critical flaw until enough people have had their hands on it for a long enough period of time.

As far as reporting them, I think you guys pretty much have the right idea. Only talk about stuff that's either verifiable, or if it's something that's so out of control that you feel inclined to temper people's expectations. After all, you guys are, first and foremost, about hard, hands-on data. Leave the leaks to the leakers-- preferably the ones that have GOOD information, and are taking a more ethical approach to the trade (e.g. not trying to sell people information like it's a black market, trying to make sure the source of the information is valid and is okay with releasing the information, etc).

I work in an industry where I was under NDA to technology companies. It would frequently happen where I was having to get information from leak websites before we got it from the company.

I was working with Intel last year doing the presentation on stage at Vision to launch the new HX mobile platform. Someone leaked the full product stack online whilst I was preparing and it had more info in that leak than I'd been given by Intel so far only weeks before the event. All these new sku's on this chart that I had no idea existed, totally trashed my presentation planning up to that point. To say that I was annoyed... more at Intel tbh as there's me preparing to tell the world about this new mobile platform on stage, and I learn more about it from a leak than from Intel themselves. And what Steve said then happened, I was back-stage getting ready to be called up, and the complete refreshed updated product stack was leaked again online literally as we were preparing back stage to go up and announce it. And those leaks were 100% accurate.

I talked with a friend who was working with a big video game ... outsourcing developer in Vietnam about her experience working with them. She told me one interesting story, the team next to her is working with a very large client. That team members are not allowed to take any digital device (mobile phone, tablets, etc.) into their office. Their workstation has no internet connection. They are not allowed to talk with their colleagues in other departments (or, at least, not talk about their project). Etc.

Those are some of the measure they take to contain the leak. And of course, it probably not work. Leaks will continue to leak, more and more countermeasure will keeps added. It just make their worklife quality getting worse and worse, just for the sake of a few selfish leakers.

I don't know what project are they working on, but it might be something on the recent PlayStation event.

PS. when I was working with another game company, there was some level of information control, especially the partner's IP (we do signed NDA). It's not the same crazy level though.

This was a conversation, not an interview. And I love it. These guys get on great. They need to get together more often.

Hey Adam, nice Silverstone advert, they been doing PSU's for 10 years... well this is why i buy CORSAIR, who has 10 YEAR WARRANTIES and they actually work, i had a 9 year old 1500 WATT PSU with a flaky micro TDP switch inside that would shut off the PC only when under full load, otherwise it worked fine 99% of the time and CORSAIR still RMA'd my AX1500i that i bought in 2009, and in 2018 they warrantied it without any hassle, so as for PSU's, CORSAIR AX series is my top pick

I did plan a build around the 5000 series when following the industry pretty tightly, including leaks, but I didn't quote IPC improvements. At the time, I was helping family member and friends build PCs with the very inexpensive 3600 and saw problems with the Intel generations at the time.

When I saw how awesome the 5800X3D was, I then considered getting whatever AMD was going to put out for their 7th generation. I saw the leaks and hoped it would be decent, but knew I would just make the decision in 1st qtr 2023.

I just took the most conservative leaks and meshed that with what I knew AMD did with the 5800X3D and extrapolated what I thought the general performance would be. I still waited for official benchmarks from reputable YT channels, but I did plan accordingly given what I knew of the industry and leaks.

I've just started assuming that all "leaks" are false. I've seen so many rumors and speculation titled as being leaks that it's hard to trust anything that's being called a leak. Though other than me hating the clicks that this kind of fake/misleading content gets, I actually think it's a good thing. Now I'm able to feel surprise and excitement around official product reveals.
