Rumor: PlayStation Showcase Coming Before E3. | Sony Is Sabotaging Microsoft Deal? - [LTPS #556]

It's been another busy week as PS VR2 quickly approaches. Review units have been sent out, games are going gold, and unboxing videos have been released! To top it all off, we've got a fresh rumor hot off the press from Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb. Seems we might finally have a State of Play and PlayStation Showcase finally coming. We also have massive updates for the Microsoft Activision deal. Apparently, Sony is trying to sabotage the deal (shocker). But anyway, let's get this bread. And then, we might even toast it. I don’t think Sony ever really believed they could stop the Blizzard/Activision deal. I think this was more about getting concessions and stopping Microsoft from continuing to target large publishers. There’s no way Microsoft is going to get away with a deal like this again…not now.

GT Sport was actually meant to be fully playable on OG PSVR, and toured with multiplayer playing on the PS4 Pro. Unfortunately all that playability was nixed because base PS4 couldn’t hack it.

I think SONY must have had a policy about any PSVR games needing to be playable on that base console.

A similar story was true for ACE COMBAT 7, which also had been meant to be the entire game.

Just… something to be aware of. That base PS4 was an anchor.

I missed the part where Jim Ryan controls the EU commission, the CMA, and the FTC.
Because that would be the only way Sony could "sabotage" the ActiBlizz deal.

I think it does help SONY because the most important answer in that poll was that 73% would buy a playstation if Call of Duty is on that console, so it is a great incentive 🌊

Surprised no mention that We Love Katamari is getting a remaster on modern platforms, knowing how big of a Katamari guy you are! Actually there was no talk of any of the third party games announced at that Nintendo Direct. But obviously there were some other stories this week so I get it.

The current generation is not what I am worried about if the deal went through. PlayStation 5 would be fine. I would be worried about PlayStation 7 or 8.

Just remember at the outset of the deal announcement by Microsoft and Activision virtually all of the American games media including analyst Michael Pachter openly promoted that there would be no barriers by regulatory bodies to the acquisition. There is mutual interest of American games media and publishers and those who mutually benefit each other. Never discount the influence of money on their opinions. And yes, Michael Pachter was wrong on a major news item. Again.
