The Enduring Mystery of Mr Fantastik

When it comes to MF DOOM there’s really no shortage of mysteries and unanswered questions, with DOOM this enigma it’s almost surprising that there exists an artist within his own universe who’s even MORE mysterious than DOOM himself, that person, of course, being Mr Fantastik. Very little is known about this buttery voice MC and there are many people who are theorized to be him but is there any truth to these claims and should we even want to know the truth?

This video was put together extremely well to say the least. I really love how you in a sense do give his identity, yet also give great credibility as to why it shouldn’t matter at all. Especially with DOOM getting to live his life normally while he could, while being as famous as he was even if he was still underground. Also that last clip with the $B interview was perfect. All musicians/artists are really just some people out there trying to do them and not have their every move watched and judged.

I honestly kinda like anticlimactic answers like this. I always kinda thought it's wack when people always gotta speculate 'oh, who is x character's parents' in any show or comic we all like. I just think 'can't they just be their own separate person, and have their own unconnected parents?'. And I think that applies here with Mr. Fantastik. He doesn't have to be RZA, or Jay Z, or Rodan, he's just some dude. Some dude with a sick flow and chill voice. The only thing I'd say I want from him is some more songs. He was damn good from what we heard, and it's kinda a shame that talent is gonna go out like a flash in a pan. But if that's not what he wants to do, he's got every right, and probably every reason, not to.

On the broader topic of privacy and what the DOOM mask meant, I personally was really opposed to seeing Daniel's face for the first time, and to a degree I still am. To me, the mask *was* DOOM's face, and it still is. Daniel could be Daniel. Or Viktor Vaughn. Or King Geedorah. Or Zev Love X. Or whoever the hell he wanted to be, and that was Daniel. I think he put it a little harshly, but yeah, at the end of the day, people look to DOOM for the music, and that separation from the mic and the rest of his life was an entirely understandable move from his perspective.
