Heres "why" Y is a vowel(my version): Y on short words makes the sound "Eye" in the word Cry, Try, and Sky, also Y makes the sound "ee" as in Happy, Crazy, Blocky, and Cracky, and thats why

In the word “they” is the letter “y” a vowel
or a consonant? Perhaps a vowel forming the
“ey” diphthong together with the letter e.

So what is "y" if you put "fly" and "you" together to form the nonsense-word "flyou"? The "y" sound is only one sound, and we can use the "fly" part of "flyou" to say "fly", and the "you" part of "flyou" to say "you". Unless "y" is both vowel and consonant at the same time, I do not see any reason to pretend that "y" is ever a consonant. It simply isn't. Therefore, "y" is always a vowel. At least, imnsho, it should be.

Yup I've often wondered this randomly! I personally think it's a consonant yet there's the contrary side that says it's a vowel.

Y can sometimes be a vowel, but most people don't consider that it is a vowel
