Have been to Cancun many times. The simple best advice is to trust no one and figure things out yourself. Otherwise, you will almost assuredly become a victim.

I was in Cancun for the first time in sep of 2021, we were a group of 6 and saw so many of these scams. They tried pulling the car rental one on us saying it had damages after we returned it. Luckily i took my go pro and took video all around the vehicle and inside when they gave it to us. I recommend going to a Walmart or big supermarket when you're buying souvenirs or alcohol bottles they'll cost you a lot less.

Another thing that many places do, is that when you pay with credit card, they will say that they are going to charge you an extra FEE for using the credit card. The PROFECO, it is an institution to protect the consumer in Mexico, just released several days ago that it is ILEGAL to do that practice, even though, that it is very common in ALL MEXICO, not just in CANCUN. Ask them first, if they say that they do, you can tell them that you will call and ask the PROFECO ( Procuraduria federal del consumidor)

Just got back from Cancun. Honestly all I can say is go with a lot of confidence don’t let the people bully you into buying from their stand. Learn the Currency and only pay with it. Fight the prices! You can lower the price on Souvenir stands, if they don’t walk away. ATM to go to is Banco Azteca you only pay a fee of .30 while others rip you off.

I didn't even think to worry about being scammed from a jet ski rental! Thanks for the advice. This is a great video.

I wish I watched this before paying 68 dollars for a taxi from the airport. Thanks for exposing these scumbags!

I just got back from Cancun. I really had an awesome time. When I landed in Cancun all the scammers were already waiting for you lol Luckily I speak Spanish. As soon as I spoke they didn’t even bothered lol Learning Spanish might help you out. Not once did any scammer try to hustle me when I spoke Spanish during my trip in Cancun.

I was in Cancun last Christmas and all this advice is spot on. I heard these stories from other tourists at our resort. Realize Mexico is a poor country and people need money and are willing to scam.

Just got back from Cancun. Speaking Spanish helps, their attitude changes when you speak the language. At the shopping center In this video they quote you a wild high price but lower it if you speak to them in Spanish.

I fortunately knew the guy was a scammer. I was waiting for my ride and had a guy fake a phone call saying my ride called and said I should pay him & go with him and they'd reimburse me later. They do this to overwhelmed tourist. The Cancun airport is hectic. Hold on to tour luggage and make sure you know what your doing and where to find your people.

You’re definitely right about the car rental insurance they wanted to charge us US$2000 to rent the car for four days and all of a sudden lowered it to 300 when we told them that they’re lying and we have insurance with a credit card

Why even go to a place where everyone is trying to scam you. Changed my mind after seeing your video. Thx!

Cancun is the place to vacation, don’t listen to sellers, just take cash and don’t follow anybody, figure out things before you go otherwise you are at the mercy of whoever you find there

For everything positive there are always negatives to be aware of.
I’ve found Fear is quite different than discernment.

Buy all inclusive 7 nights from the airlines. And stay at the resort. Transfer to the hotel is included in the ticket.

Just got back from Cancun on July 10 2023, Definitely saw scammers, definitely saw “corrupt” officers, and seen a group of Hispanic individuals at coco bongo nightclub who sold me some weed and told me they were Cjnc or something. But overall the trip was good af made it back to Houston safe & sound. Didn’t get hustled because 🤷🏾‍♂️ I do the hustling 💯

I was in Cancun in 97, 06, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and it was fine, then I went back in Nov20 and March 21. NEVER NEVER again. We like to leave the resort and it is non stop scammers and peddlers. You go to a restaurant and people come up to your table non stop wanting to take your photo or do a magic trick and when you go to outdoor bars, the little children come up non stop to sell you trinkets and people non stop want to sell you drugs. The place has gone to hell and has become quite expensive

As beautiful as it all looks, it doesn't seem like much of a vacation if I constantly have to look out for scams, thieves, bait-and-switch sellers, having to either be blackmailed or jailed by the polizia, or just be massively overcharged because of the language barrier I'd already be dealing with.
I had been considering trying Cancun, but, thanks to this video, I have reconsidered and will just admire their photos and videos and go somewhere else.
