It IS always so nice to be back with Fitz. We had a similar experience with Soldier Son on the first pass - hoping we all love it! Shaman’s Crossing will be my next read after I finish GGK Lord of Emperors (about 33% in.)

I read Shaman's Crossing before any other Hobb book and I really enjoyed it. I'm sorry that you had such a bad time with it. Hopefully you'll like it better than the other time!

I need to finish Words of Radiance (I have 400 more pages to go, so should be done this week), and then I’ll start on Shaman’s Crossing. I just got Bear and the Nightingale and Spear Cuts thru Water. Trying to figure out when I’m reading those two.
