"I didn’t go into this business to make a lot of money. I went into this business because I enjoy it."

Leon Cooperman graduated from Hunter College in 1965 and started his career at Xerox as a quality control engineer. A year later, he decided to pursue an MBA full-time at Columbia Business School and took a job at Goldman Sachs after graduating. Leon worked at Goldman Sachs for 25 years, and became the chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs’ Asset Management and the CIO of the equity product line, including managing the Goldman Sachs Capital Growth Fund. In 1991, Leon left Goldman Sachs to found Omega Advisors, which is now a $9.4 billion New York-based hedge fund. He was voted the “#1 Portfolio Strategist” in the Institutional Investor All-America Research Team survey for 9 consecutive years and also made Bloomberg Markets Magazine’s “50 Most Influential”, Forbes’ “40 Highest-Earning Hedge Fund Managers”, and Forbes’ “Top 10 Overall Hedge Fund Managers” lists. He is a long-time supporter of Columbia Business School and created the Cooperman Scholarship Challenge, providing over 40 need based student scholarships.
