Thank you for this my son does some of these things. I'll double check but I'm sure he does. But he was diagnosed with expressive language delay. I've been working with him non-stop for years.

THANK YOU! I've been trying to convince our speech therapist for MONTHS that our 2 year old son is not autistic! He's just speech and language delayed. He had a major hearing loss from fluid in his ears that we've now since fixed, but they were evaluating him based on that. He makes eye contact with people he knows, but very brief with strangers (because he's a shy kid), repeats gestures (can high-five, blow a kiss, clap his hands when we do, sticks out his tongue in imitation, etc.), will look at us and smile when his favorite song comes on, looks at us with anticipation when we play the "I'm going to get you" game.. everything you've mentioned! He also knows a lot of words 50+ now, He is just behind right now in using those words to ask for things by labeling what they are. We get a lot of whining and reaching/pointing because he's learned how to get his way with us. He's also learned the sign for "more" when he wants more food, but sometimes refuses to say "more *food* please". I've known in my gut it's not autism.. and it's been such a hard road getting professionals to understand that. Thanks again for this video.. I can't even tell you how reassuring it was.

Could an autistic child start developing these skills much later, say 3.5 - 4 years old?

My kid looks back to see if I'm coming all the time and if he hears a scaring sound he'll look at my wife and I for reassurance but he does not point at anything at all and uses hand guiding ...

Thank you for this informative video. So if the child is not imitating then does it indicate a strong chance of Autism?

My daughter is almost 3 and she repeats a lot of sentences exactly how she learns them. For example, she will fall down and say “oh are you okay” or throw something away in the trash and say “good job Lexi”. I think this may be called echolalia which is very common in autism. But she does everything you explained in this video. Has great eye contact, responds to her name, points things out and looks back at me to see my reaction. I’m just wondering if echolalia can be found in toddlers who are not autistic?

My 2.5 year old grandson was interested in another child at the playground who was a bit older maybe 8. He took his hand to walk with him haha and was upset when my son in law had to take him away because the little boy needed to go home .. i thought that was a good sign he didn’t have autism ( he hasn’t been evaluated yet due to covid ) he’s on a. Waiting list .. he doesn’t point so it’s looking grim I suppose :-(
