Why Would Anyone Want to Live With Less? (filmed in Chicago, IL)

To most people in today's society minimalism seems like pure insanity. Why would anyone purposely decide to have less in life? Isn't it the thought of having more in life what keeps us getting up and going to work every morning?

Hi, I'm Timothy Ward, and I used to feel the same way about possessions. I thought that my self worth was tied to certain things I owned and so I wanted more and more of those things. It wasn't until I discovered minimalism and gave it a try that I realized how wonderful life can be when you have only what you need, and maybe a little more.

In today's video, which I filmed in the beautiful city of Chicago, I discuss 3 positive benefits of living a minimalistic lifestyle. If you are just looking into minimalism or are thinking about trying it out in your life then I highly recommend you watch this video. I'm not trying to sell you anything folks, I just want you to be as happy as I am!

Great message. I’m 24 and honestly the older I get the less I want in my life. Goes for people too. I rather have 1- 2 people in my life then a whole bunch. For once In my life I’m at peace. I don’t look at another women or another man processions. Because we may not know how they got it / how they’re obtaining it.

I am a minimalist and I love having to not worry about bringing so much crap with me whether it be on a trip or when its time to move to a new place. It's bliss!

This takes me back to how I thought that having it all was living your "best life". Part of it was the mentality I had when I was married; always working long hard hours to provide for my family. Thing was, I could never really afford the things I wanted and I was mostly sacrificing to buy my ex-wife what she wanted; all to "make her happy". Then my (ex)wife nuked the family. I immediately registered back to school, picked up a side job for more money and became a serial dater. I realized two things; I was digging myself into an early grave because I rarely slept and I was missing out on my time with my children. I've since changed all that. I haven't dated in 2+ years, I'm more focused and involved with my children (and I love it!!!!). I've given up chasing a degree that I really don't need because I currently have a good paying job. For some stupid reason, I wanted to show my ex-wife how much better I could do without her. In hindsight, that's total bullshit because I wasn't really living MY life. There's a few things I'm still working out, like getting rid of everything I have in storage and divorce myself from working overtime.

In closing, I can honestly tell you that I'm so much happier with less things in my life. My goal is to do seasonal work at major campgrounds and travel the country on a school bus conversion, and hopefully own a dog or two for companionship. Sorry for the long rambling, I just love timothy's message.

32 and i haven't owned a bed for the past 2 years :), i enjoy the free space. I'm glad for the roof over my head the heating during winter and the air conditioning during summer. Work to put bread on the table and save for travel and other much-needed things, i wouldn't call myself a minimalist yet but yes I'm getting there, u start to declutter things people, and a lot of other things, i am able to understand life a lot better and it's helping me live my life a lot better. Pray everyone else's journey is going as smooth as possible much love from across the pond :)

I lived in Dallas Texas for over 15 years and in addition to many possessions car, home etc. I went from a full walk in closet full of clothes to a studio in Arizona with three handbags. I’m happy 💯❤️🤣😉

Excellent video! I completely agree and am on the minimalism path...next step is to sell my house and travel. There's too much of the world to see!

Your videos are on point! As a collector, I know exactly what you mean by getting rid of useless things. Been selling off parts of my collections in mass. I felt so drowned by it at times. I just never took the time to go through my belongings until now. You definitely don’t miss it once it’s gone. The upside of collecting is that you can always make good money back from it. So you are definitely telling the truth about that. The more I sell, the more im anxious to get ride of things. Sold a lot of my beloved possessions, but I feel so relieved. Literally down to my minimum.

Well said! I've believed since a young age that minimalism is the is best, maybe only, way for us, to move forward as humanity. So that we can truly focus on caring for our mental health, our communities- eachother & the environment/our home! Rather than things..

Enjoy Chicago while you are here! I’ve been watching your videos as my wife and I are looking into working for Big Sky this winter season. I’m currently working at a fun job flying over Chicago in news helicopters as a camera op. Even from above, the city life just is not for me or my wife…thus, our yearning for Bigger Skies!

Appreciate the videos! Safe Travels!

We are almost identical in our way of thinking. I own a home that requires little to no maintenance (time). I live 10 minutes away from the job because of time. I dont waste a second maintaining stuff. I will be retired on my 50th birthday without needing to work again. Love it.

I listened to Marie Kondo’s book called, Spark joy, three times while I went through everything in my house. That was three years ago and Im still getting rid of stuff. I’d rather be surrounded by a few things that give me joy. Plus it helps me not over spend. My sister gets irritated at how long it takes me to go shopping, because I have to sit and really think, do I need this? Do I love this?

My definition is just the essential. When I move I just have a bunch of suitcases and the TV/bluray player. Smooth and no fuss.
