Strymon TimeLine 4 (dBucket vs Deluxe Memory Man)

In this video I compare the TimeLine dBucket algorithm to a real bucket brigade analog delay, a vintage Deluxe Memory Man.

I spent about 40 minutes tweaking this setting, getting it as close as possible for this demo. Some commenters have pointed out that the mix on the TimeLine wasn't as loud as the Memory Man. I didn't notice this while I was playing. Let that be a lesson in how a recorded guitar can sometimes sound different than standing in front of the amp. Even so, I think this video is still a good comparison of the two pedals.

My signal path for this video is a 2000 Gibson Les Paul Classic with Seymour Duncan Antiquity Pickups, Tim overdrive, TimeLine, EH Deluxe Memory Man, Vox AC30H2.

Great demo  I don't think you can go wrong either way.  There are certainly noticeable differences, but they both sound pretty amazing.  I've got a dirtbag(a DMM I built my self using NOS Panasonic MN3005), which I wont be letting go.  I also have a timeline on the way.  I'm actually impressed at how well the timeline simulates the headroom you get on a DMM by running at 15V.  Not quite the same, but great sounding nonetheless.  I suspect without having them side by side, few people would be able to tell them apart.  Thanks again for a great demo.

They both sound excellent, I have a timeline and love it but that memory man does sound a little warmer and theres just something special about it

memory man to me is more stereo lush sounding .And it just sounds more natural .I've always been a analog man I guess when it comes to my delay effects.

@HeartfeltDawn That's an incredible deal! Great find.

you have the filter on halfway on the strymon, that's why it was muddy bud!

Anyone still watching... Filter and Grit controls were cranked on the Timeline... that's why it was dark, mushy and (bucket loss) noisy. Not a good/fair comparison.

I think the DMM will never be replaced, but the Timeline does a great job and they would make a fine pair. The DMM wins in this demo for sure.

@cloisterx3

Thanks man. It's some kind of Em. I think it was index finger on A string 7th fret and pinky on B string 8th fret. G string open. D string muted.

That's from memory. I don't have a guitar in front of me at the moment ... but that should get you in the ballpark.

Man, you got some great pedals! They deserve better patch cables!

@klauslehner @ChickenRapist It is stock. The black dots are the rubber feet I removed to place velcro on the bottom.

I may have it modded in the future as I am only getting about 380ms of delay time at it's max.

I still think the el Capistan is their best pedal. Something magical about it.

If you put a preamp into the timeline fx loop, it will be more similar.

In this video, I had it connected mono. In my other videos I'm using the TimeLine in stereo.

I'm just referring to the Memory Man, the POG and the Holy Grail Reverb.
I wasn't trying to say that you were biased in the review.

I'm not sure of the year. It's one of the later models with the external power supply.

@Lemure333 It's hard to say. I really dig the Memory Man and sold the TimeLine. I'm thinking about picking up another el Capistan, because I really enjoyed that pedal when I had it.

@fendertwin777 Hi! Sorry, about the Strymon or the Eventide? I only have the Eventide, I could try to demo it when I arrive home next week...
As for the TimeLine all I know is what I found out on the internet.
But I find funny that I haven´t seen a demo of the Timefactor using the freeze function (as easy as pressing the middle footswitch).
