Is there really a difference between an #NP and a #PA ? Can they do the same job?

The answer is a bit vague.

Until next time...

You're the only NP I know that keeps it 100% real. It's appreciated.

I think the years of bedside experience that the NP brings to the table makes a huge difference! Both are awesome roles

I've been an bachelors prepared ICU Respiratory Therapist for 5 years and applying to PA school next year. I have extensive peds and ICU experience so not all PA's have no prior med experience. Some PA's were nurses, RTs, paramedics, etc. Schooling is modeled after medical school so its way more extensive in hours and clinical contact hours. There are doctoral programs and residencies available post grad. Being a generalist is not a con but a pro. Being extensively trained on almost every specialty area of medicine allows you to treat a patient holistically. Some PA's stay in the same specialty their whole career but you are not stuck doing the same job treating the same population for the next 30+ years if you want change.

Good discussion. Just curious. Why do NPs and PAs seem generally more approachable than most MDs? They also spend more time educating their patients from what I’ve seen. Is it in their training perhaps?

Why aren't you SCREAMING the fact that an NP is an independent clinician while a PA must be supervised and signed off by a physician?
