Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil (Ty Burrell) have mixed feelings regarding their kids' first day of school. Claire would LOVE some much-needed peace and quiet, but Phil worries she is lonely as an empty nester. Naturally, this progresses into a full-on neighborhood race (just Dunphy things) to prove who is the fastest Dunphy parent. (Season 1 Episode 6).

Now I love all the characters but Phil was one of those ones that really carried this show and could not have been played by anyone else. The way the actor plays him makes him easily one of the most intriguing characters in this show.
