Dharavi is unique & it's a slum only in the way its grown over the decades- ramshackle & congested. Its surely the richest slum with plenty businesses + its biggest recycler of used products . Some of the Owners who make the products there own some of the best luxury cars . .. Mercedes to BMW to any imported car .. ..all can be seen in & around Dharavi

That slum generates billions of dollars . Maybe the only Slum in the world that generate money worth of billions

India is master at customization...not just leather...any fabric you choose, you can get customized dress of your choice at reasonable price..think of any cut, any design whether its fabric painting, hand work or machine embroidery, mirrors, any cloth have few extra stiches inside the dress just in case one needs to widen it in future due to weight gain... how ahead of time people altering is more cheaper in rural area than in big cities like mumbai..but dharavi should be cheaper i am guessing...i remember making wearing this customized sandals designed by mom and made by shoe maker in little village ..it made of red pink velvet, wood, nice golden lace on it with some little goden bead work...
Even when the slipper strap breaks..you dont throw away whole slippers, you go and change just the strap. If there is hole at the bottom of your shoe, you go and have it patched up...
Reduce, reuse and recycle is new concept in western society, but it is groundly rooted in india...
