Casper wasn't born a ghost.... He was a whole little boy who played in the snow and got sick and passed away. He haunted his father because he saw how sad it made him, so he stayed on earth instead of going to the afterlife. His father created the Lazarus machine to give him a new body.

In the first movie when he's trying to marry Lydia he pulls out the ring and its attached to a finger. And he says " don't worry she meant nothing to me".. and in the new trailer if you look closely at his wife's ring finger it's missing haha. So good

He's not getting a new backstory he's getting more context to his past.

His actual origin was never explained in the movie and the tidbits about his history (from himself and from what Juno told the Maitlands about him) didn't amount to a whole lot. He isn't getting a "new" backstory, they're just filling in some blanks and giving us a better idea of who he is/was.

His origin wasn't exactly explained. There are only a few tid bits of information. This would be a reveal of his actual origin if you think about it.

My favorite fact about the making of the first one is that when Beetlejuice kicks the tree in the graveyard model and it falls over he says, “Nice effing model!” and grabs his crotch. That was completely ad-libbed by Keaton himself. When he kicked the tree it wasn’t supposed to fall. But Burton loved it so much that he kept it in the movie. Can’t wait for the sequel! The trailer itself made me laugh really hard!
