Dudee THIS. As someone who conversed mostly in English I have now started taking pride in my language, I try to consume media and literature in my own language. I think we have a moral and ethical responsibility to keep our culture alive

As a Kannadiga when i went into depth of the language i understood how beautiful and melodious my language is. And it took me 30 years to realise it.

As someone who has learned French for several years and is fluent in it, I ALWAYS encourage people to learn their heritage language even if it is a local one. I'm Marathi, and I can read, write and speak it, and I am prouder of my fluency in Marathi than I am of my fluency in French.

Please don't reduce years of colonialism, it's 800-1000 years, remember Islamic rule was also colonialism

Hey! What timing! I was thinking about this this morning! I live abroad and I clearly see that lack of self confidence and identity whenever it comes to us Indians in comparison to people from other countries including African contries!

@trsoriginals its just conserning that we only speak about trauma of last 200 years comletely white washing 700 years before that. people who started this with an agenda decades ago now we are already seeing repercussion, atleast now with the help of facts seekers like lets bring in the awareness. ( by doing so we are not instigating hate towards anybody but just acknowledging how much we have lost and how much of that trauma we still carry!). Thank you

200 years? More like 1000. People want to think colonization was just European Christian whether British, Portuguese or French in different parts of this county. However, the first colonizer for us was the Islamic colonizer and that colonizer handed over the rule to the Christian colonizer until our independence.

The Indi alliance wants this trauma to be subtly and secretly etched forever in Indians mind. It starts from school through NCERT History Text Books.

I am a Maharashtrian. I am proud to be fluent in Marathi and also Hindi. I understand Gujarati and Konkani. I am trying to learn Sanskrit. The amount of beautiful literature and knowledge we have in Indian languages is immense and everyone should at least learn and be fluent in their local languages. English is fine, good to know for official purposes since world is now into the globalisation phase. But be proud and curious about your language and culture!

I hate this ignorance of facts....it's 800 years and not 200 years of oppression

I'm a Bengali and I have studied in Bengali medium school. My parents were constantly told by some relatives that I will not have any future if I don't go to an English medium school. My parents would reply that "we have studied in Bengali medium school too and we are doing fine. If we don't teach her to appreciate her own language then who will do that."

That is actually true. There was this time in India, especially when lives USA/UK looked much more lucrative, IT was booming and the quickest way to get to the West was to learn English. Thus parents focused a lot on their kids getting fluent in English (if some of your parents didn't do it, great! But as a whole there definitely was a hightened focus on learninf English). I think these past couple of years (especially since Modi govenrment and a general decline in US/UK or the attraction towards West) has caused people to focus back to their roots, which is a nice things in general. But let's hope we find a balance😊

I know many people who are well read in multiple languages. It’s a conscious choice. It’s on her if she didn’t put in the effort to learn her mother language. If your parents/school didn’t teach you, what did you do when you are older, more mature and realized the value of your identity?… learning never stops and has no age restrictions.

My sister is learning coding in her mid 40s after years of break from her previous career and competing with the young engineers. Her schooling was in Telugu Medium not even English. We are all proud of her. It’s the same with traditions, culture, languages, etc.

Bad things happened, so what? Don’t you want a path forward and move ahead?

This comment is solely based on only what I saw in this clip. I do not know the full context of the podcast here.

Only if the British and American people recognized their own Culture they won't be ruining the Culture of other Countries so be proud of your Countries own Indigenous culture because that is what makes us Indian, British or Russian for that matter and Indian people should be proud not Demean themselves for living in this Vast cultural country. ❤❤❤❤
