That’s because most of the money from movie tickets go to the movie studios during the first few weeks. If cinemas want to make money, they have to increase the price. They are mostly making money by selling snacks, and this is why your popcorn is way too expensive.

Have you ever felt sick when watching a 3D movie? You are not the only one, and there is a good reason for this. That’s because cinema is messing with your brain. Your eyes think that you are moving and your ears say that you are not. This is what confuses your brain and makes you feel nauseous. It is also the opposite of what happens when you are reading a book in a car.

I work at a movie theater. Let me add some things (and clear some up). Please note, I can only speak for my theater, not all companies)
1. Combos don't save you any money. If you bought the popcorn and drinks separately, they are the same price. But when you say it's a combo, it sounds like you're getting a good deal.
2. Yes, all we do is sweep the theaters in between movies. But that's all we have time for so the next movie can start. Cleaners come in at night to mop.
3. We throw popcorn away literally by the bucket full. But the employees get in trouble if a popcorn bag gets damaged or goes missing. So really, it's the bag or tub you're paying for, not the popcorn. Same goes for soda.
4. Everything gets cleaned daily. The popcorn machine, the soda dispensers, any serving utensils, and the counters and floors. We're very thorough.
5. We think the prices are just as crazy as you do, but we're not the ones who set them (that's corporate) so please don't complain about them to us. It's not in our power to change.

The movie theater where I worked at we threw the popcorn out everynight we had fresh popcorn every hour. And our floors were spotless.

I work at a movies for Regal Cinema in mobile al. We are required to clean the popcorn machine, butter machine, hotdog machine, soda machines, ovens, jalapeño peppers, including washing dishes every night!!!! We keep the popcorn in Health regulation recommended bags for the people who wants to buy some or get a refill as we close. We never serve day old popcorn either. We through it out the next day. And the fact that we eat the food on a daily should say a lot.
