You are so right about accountability. The only thing we have are reviews online to warn other people if they actually are listed anywhere.

I just installed about 600 sf of Pergo Outlast that's supposely "waterproof, " but also requires thw perimeter to be sealed with 100% silicone with a PEX backer AND all plank-touching quarter-round to have a bead of silicone as well. Thats such an obvious out for ANY warranty claim. I did a basic amount of silicone where it was reasonable but i have no doubt it would be *trivial* to find a tiny gap or area where I might have missed and disclaim any warranty. The silicone was a bigger mess than I ever expected and hardly worth the extra effort.

Most home warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.

Speaking of warranties, I bought a Whirpool cooktop in November 2022 with a one year waranty. The "on" light went out within a month, I've had four techs come out and it still has not been repaired. They keep saying the part is out of stock. I keep getting letters for me to PAY for extended warranty. It is a fire hazard, I have poor vision and have left it on several times. Warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. 😡😠

I don’t understand the rant about low contractor pricing 50:40. Why encourage higher pricing for contractors??

I forget companies can sue for deformation in the US of A. Companies can't sue for deformation in Australia, only real people can be defamed - so we can tell it how it is as far as products go! oh, and the company that sold you the product is the company liable under consumer law for meeting the warranty here as well, they can't fob you off. The warranty is also set under consumer law, they dont get to make up their own rules...

When buying product like flooring, buy a bit more than you actually need. That way you have some left over in case of an accident or pre-mature wear & tear.

There is pretty bad products out there.

Sometimes it is bad batches from reputable manufacturers. Sometimes it is labor intensive manufactured goods that leave for errors.

I know I seen BP shingles pay out pro rated warranty on premature decay. They dont pay labor of course but its something.

Except for the more popular brands, many window manufacturers typically go out of business or get bought out within 10 years. So if you were sold a house full of windows with a lifetime warranty, forget about calling them after 10 or 15 years. "The Super Duper Window Company" or the "Seal-O-Matic" companies and the installers are long gone.

All this talk tells me that stained concrete on slab is the only long lasting option. Ugh.

bottom line is when it comes to money you cannot trust anyone..people think HR departments in companies are for employees protection...its not its to provide protection for the company and remove employees who seek justice..Sad...you pay a someone to do good work...they shaft you and are protected by loop holes...like Jeff says Do it yourself if you are able and if you screw up its on you...if you pay someone who screws up its still on you but at least you saved thousands on labor....either way your screwed.. ridiculous
