This month, ignition helps a car dealer find one car that has everything he wants: prestige, pace and comfort; and, perhaps most importantly, room for his golf clubs!

Anthony was a little bemused by the Range Rover Sport’s name – ‘It’s more beefy than sporty,’ he reckoned – but he couldn’t deny that the car had real presence.

Inside, too, he was thoroughly impressed, complimenting Land Rover on how well thought-out the interior was, how simple the controls were, and how well made it all was.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news: even with the air suspension set to its lowest level, the height of the vehicle made it difficult for Anthony to get in and out, and he was worried that his wife wouldn’t be able to manage it at all. Worse still, he said the boot wouldn’t be able to take two sets of golf clubs and trollies.

On the other hand, he was impressed – as we were – by how well the car drove. Despite being so large and having the least powerful engine of the three, he thought the Land Rover responded well.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Rangie, though, is its sheer breadth of abilities, successfully tackling everything from a crawl down a slippery slope to flying along motorways. Anthony was less bothered by its abilities off-road, but he thought it was a very comfortable vehicle to drive on-road.

His only slight bugbear was that the view to the rear was blocked by the head restraints, but the huge door mirrors were some compensation.

My Aunt spent near $20, 000 in repairs, in the first year on her VW Continental GT (its not a Bentley). She traded it in for a Rangey ... the proper one! Out of the frying pan

Grand Uncle, you need an old Cadillac or Jaguar for your golf clubs.

“It’s got good all round visibility apart from the back” - so, not really all round good visibility then?

“Unfortunately it’s no good for me, I couldn’t get 2 golf bags and their trolleys in there” - we don’t care.

Give him him Morris traveller back with its extra windows and room for his golf sticks. 🤷🏻‍♂️

so why would you take the m550d, the fattest, strongest and most expensive x5 model vs such a basic range rover sport? At least you should have taken the normal range rover (so the big one) with a high end motor for a real comparison?
